    Job Description

    NBC Bay Area's Internship provides students with real world experience and exposure to working in a top ten television market.

    Successful interns will demonstrate a passion for learning and the ability to step out of their comfort zone. We are looking for students who are highly motivated and who can function as a team member or independently in a fast-paced news environment.

    Internships at NBCUniversal are paid and do not require course credit.

    This internship runs on an Academic Year which is September 2024 through April 2025.

    The Community Engagement Intern will:

    • Assist with planning and participating in special station events and projects, including weekend events.
    • Attend community events throughout the Bay Area.
    • Possess a friendly and engaging personality, as they will interact with the public and serve as a station ambassador at community events. A positive attitude is essential for this role.
    • Experience in setting up marketing activations at community events is a plus.
    • Compile the station’s FCC public file, including the development of quarterly and annual reports.
    • Update and maintain the nbcbayarea.com online community calendar, including creating event articles.
    • Assist in online research of local community events and keep abreast of what’s happening in the Bay Area.
    • Have an in-depth understanding of the SF Bay Area non-profit, cultural, and media landscapes.
    • Propose new community events to support company priorities and goals.
    • Assist in researching potential guests for community affairs programs.
    • Write PSA scripts, post-event recaps, newsletters, and event descriptions for website publication.
    • Manage the invoicing process and track Community Department expenses.
    • Capture footage, including both stills and b-roll, during community events.
    • Gather and pull on-air news clips to distribute to community partners.
    • Provide their own transportation to and from community event activations throughout the Bay Area.
    • Utilize Word, Excel, and other programs in the execution of assignments.
    • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
    • Graphic design and Adobe Creative Suite skills are a plus.

    • NBCUniversal interns must meet the following criteria:
    • In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution and be able to provide documentation to confirm your degree progress. We will consider recent graduates one semester beyond degree.
    • Current class standing of Junior or above
    • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
    • Must be 18 years of age or older
    • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. without a Visa or sponsorship
    • The ability to work at the station, located at 2450 N. First Street, San Jose, CA

    Desired:

    • Film or TV major a plus but not required.
    • All we ask is that you are willing to work hard and you want to learn what it takes to do creative work while having fun.
    • In pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or related field preferred
    • Base Salary is $17.60 per hour
