    Job Description

    We are NBCUniversal's enterprise-wide Standards department. Our team develops and implements content policies that center our viewers and excite our collaborators, including creators, advertisers, and brand partners, in order to deliver the best experience for all audiences. We support innovative ad products and culture-defining entertainment programming while ensuring that NBCU’s advertising and program content reflects the sensibilities of our company and respects our diverse community of fans across broadcast, cable, and streaming.

    As the Vice President, Standards you will have full functional responsibility for managing and leading a team of individuals responsible for evaluating advertising and programming content with wide latitude for initiative, judgment, and action. You will coordinate and leverage standards capabilities throughout NBCU including organizing and implementing standards initiatives and projects, and serving as an advisor on standards matters across multiple platforms. This role will primarily support the advertising business, but as we are a multi-disciplinary team, you will be expected to remain flexible and pitch in across both advertising and program standards as needed.

    This position is based in New York or Los Angeles and reports to the Senior Vice President, Standards.   As we are a geographically distributed department with teams in Los Angeles, Miami, and New York, you will be expected to partner effectively and seamlessly with colleagues across the department to achieve common goals.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Be hands on, reviewing high visibility/high risk and emerging commercial categories (e.g., political and issue advertising, cryptocurrencies, digital advertising etc.) from concept/storyboard to final edit, ensuring that they meet all regulatory and industry self-regulatory requirements and NBCU’s standards.
    • Lead, manage, grow and inspire team members with varying levels of experience in a complex and rapidly evolving environment while fostering a culture that encourages creative thinking and innovation.
    • Interface regularly and foster excellent relationships with internal sales, commercial operations, legal and creative executives to enforce standards decisions and reinforce and solicit feedback on standards policies.
    • Leverage the scale of our enterprise-wide team to support the strategies and drive the objectives of the NBCU TV & Streaming and advertising sales businesses.
    • Manage the coordination of cross-department teams on strategic projects, serving as an organizational problem solver, collaborating on effective solutions, and delivering excellence in execution, including driving initiatives that help the department leverage technology more effectively within the content review eco-system.
    • Serve as a senior decision-maker and subject matter expert for advertising standards throughout NBCU and participate in decisions affecting major policy and procedural issues.
    • Screen and issue notes for content in multiple programming formats (e.g., scripted, unscripted, and live events) from concept to locked final for compliance with NBCU's program standards, and assign Television Parental Guidelines ratings, as needed.
    •  Promote coordination of standards activities and sharing of best practices across NBCUniversal’s broadcast and cable networks, owned stations, and streaming/other digital platforms to ensure consistency in standards processes to the extent possible.

    SALARY RANGE: $170,000 - $190,000 (BONUS AND LONG-TERM INCENTIVE ELIGIBLE)

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications: 

    • Minimum of ten years of individual or combined experience in a standards and practices, trust and safety, commercial clearance, or advertising legal role.
    • Experience managing and developing a high-performing team, and a reputation as a strong leader with a track record of developing people.
    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

    Eligibility Requirements:

    • Must be willing and available to work some evening and weekend hours to meet operational needs.
    •  Must be able to separate personal beliefs and interests from content review requirements to apply NBCUniversal's guidelines and policies to applicable content.
    •  Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    •  Must demonstrate respect for all and foster an equitable and inclusive environment.
    • Must possess a demonstrated ability to engage in sensitive and difficult conversations as the nature of the work performed may require discussion of sensitive subjects that appear in content undergoing review.
