    Job Description

    The Mechanical Engineering Intern provides support to sustaining engineering activities for theme park attractions (rides and shows). Duties include assisting Engineers with complex downtime investigation, reverse engineering, and other engineering tasks as required to ensure daily operational readiness of attractions. Additional duties include supporting re-design and development efforts for mechanical/structural systems of theme park rides and attractions. Some projects will require interfacing with Technicians, Management, Operations, Entertainment, and/or outside vendors.

    All work shall be in conformance with ASTM F24 Committee guidelines and compliant with applicable codes, regulations and standards including: AISC, ASME, ASTM, ANSI, AWS, JIC, NEC, and OSHA, among others.

    This role has exposure to multiple different ride and show systems spanning multiple decades, each with its unique fun and challenges.

    Responsibilities

    • Supports Engineers responding to sustaining engineering calls and troubleshooting recurring design or maintenance issues.
    • Supports Engineers with large capital projects (scope of work, managing progress, overseeing design).
    • Facilitates engineering documentation updates and change control processes.

    • Facilitates review, assignment and tracking of engineering change requests.

    • Coordinates engineering activities between vendors, engineers, ride and show management, and technicians.
    • Interfaces with Technicians and Vendors to ensure design documentation remains updated to support parts procurement.
    • Supports Engineers in the mock-up, prototype, installation, and commissioning of ride and show equipment.
    • Provides project status updates on assigned task list items to the client and Engineering management.
    • Maintains configuration management of project documentation in accordance with Engineering’s guidelines.
    • Supports Engineers in developing and conducting Acceptance Test Procedures on mechanical systems.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • B.S. Mechanical Engineering student with completed coursework in statics, dynamics, and strength of materials.
    • Analytical skills to perform basic engineering calculations for design and test of mechanical systems.
    • Ability to learn and perform basic Finite Element Analysis on simple structures.
    • Basic awareness of welded structures/joints, composite materials, manufacturing, and fabrication.
    • Basic awareness of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components.
    • Basic knowledge of common metals (carbon and alloy steels, aluminum) and plastics/composites.
    • Proficiency in mechanical drawings, Solidworks, AutoCAD and technical documents.
    • Ability to follow pre-established Universal design specifications and industry standards (such as AWS, ANSI and ASTM F24).
    • Ability & willingness to work overtime, weekends and holidays with short notice.
    • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills. Logical approach to problem solving.
    • Ability to work autonomously and in teams. Strong team player.

    • Knowledge of ASTM F24 standards, AWS D1, and relevant ASME/ASTM/ANSI standards

    Pay Range:

    $20-$25/hour
