Job Title: Data Engineer
Location: Houston, Texas
Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our team, working on-site of fortune 500 international energy trading companies. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in using Python to manipulate financial engineering systems, specifically to build and backtest trading strategies for various financial instruments. This role involves close collaboration with traders and requires a deep understanding of data pipelines, financial data, and trading systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL processes tailored for financial data.
- Utilize Python to interface with financial engineering systems, enabling the development and backtesting of trading strategies.
- Collaborate with traders to implement and optimize algorithmic strategies across a variety of instruments.
- Work with data scientists and analysts to ensure data quality and the availability of reliable data for analytics.
- Optimize and improve existing data architectures to support scalable and efficient data processing.
- Ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and security of financial data throughout the data lifecycle.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
- Proficient in Python, with strong experience in data manipulation and integration with financial systems.
- Demonstrated experience in building and backtesting trading strategies using historical and real-time data.
- Familiarity with financial markets, instruments, and trading systems.
- Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, data warehousing solutions, and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with financial engineering systems and supporting trading desks.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and related data services.
- Experience with machine learning and statistical modeling techniques as applied to financial data.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
