    Position Summary:

    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Surgical Technician- Small Animal.

    The Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC) at the NYU School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated individual with experience in small animal surgery to become part of a team investigating the mechanisms of cardiovascular development and disease. This position would entail performing procedures for a variety of cardiovascular research efforts across several different labs in the CVRC.

    Job Responsibilities:

    * Perform survival mouse surgeries, including but not limited to ligation of left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery, femoral artery ligation, aortic arch transplant, aortic banding, adipose tissue transplants, venous thrombosis and arterial thrombosis models.
    * Coordinate and assume primary responsibility for all animal-related surgical and pre-/post-operative care. 
    * Assure compliance with applicable state, federal, and institutional laws, regulations and policies pertaining to animal research.
    * Maintain experimental data/records and present these in weekly meetings.
    * Work closely with bench scientists to understand and help accomplish their research goals.
    * Performs other related duties as assigned.
    * May serve on internal committees to help further goals of research projects and bring new expertise to the research program.
    * May coordinate the activity and experimental design between various labs, scientific staff, and collaborators. Identifies and resolves technical problems.
    * May provide recommendations for equipment purchases and for the redesign of lab space.
    * May make significant contributions to scientific papers. Is a resource/ author/ co-author for reports and presentations.
    * Maintains a thorough knowledge of the advances in specialized fields through attendance of scientific conferences.
    * May determine and establish laboratory policies, procedures and practices.
    * Develops research techniques and methodologies.
    * May develop protocol for the collection and quality of research data.
    * May be responsible research/lab quality control and compliance.
    * May participate in writing grant proposals.
    * May provide students with technical guidance and direction in the operation of various sample preparation techniques, extraction lines, and equipment as well as general laboratory practices and safety protocols.
    * Ensures timely and accurate completion of research projects.
    * Oversees the maintenance and upkeep of all instruments and laboratory facilities.
    * Develops new ideas that promote current research. Exercises a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding extensive scientific research programs and activities of outstanding novelty and/or importance.
    * Makes decisions and recommendations that have a major impact on extensive scientific research activities.
    * Explores subject area and defines scope and selection of problems for investigation through conceptually related studies or series of projects of lesser scope.
    * Formulates and conducts research on problems of considerable scope and complexity.
    * Initiates, interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates research assignments critical to department's mission.
    

    Minimum Qualifications:

    To qualify you must have a Undergraduate or graduate college degree with research experience in the biomedical sciences is required. In-depth knowledge and prior experience (at least 2 years) in performing aseptic survival surgeries (anesthesia/intubation/ventilation and post-operative care in mice or rats. Excellent communication skills with proficiency in written and oral English. Evidence of a capability to plan, execute, and interpret experiments. Demonstrated research ability as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in the areas of vascular biology or surgical models of disease.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Imaging experience preferred.

    NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $52,649.99 - $60,949.05 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
