Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a OR Processing Tech (37.5)-Faculty Group Practice.
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for ensuring that all instruments exchange carts, par level carts, instrument sets, single peel packs, and emergency supplies meet established quotas both qualitatively and quantitatively. Delivers them to the surgical suites in a timely manner. Decontaminates, disinfects, test, adjust and assembles mobile patient equipment and assists in decontaminating designated surgical instrumentation. Inventories, orders and stocks medical disposable goods in storage areas and is responsible for the materials handling within the sterile processing area. Answers telephones, handles face to face interactions with internal and external customers and actively participate in continuous quality improvement process.
Job Responsibilities:
* Demonstrates knowledge of decontamination, disinfection and cleaning methods. Exhibits knowledge in Determining the methods to be used to care for instruments: hand washing, mechanical washing or disinfection, especially in removal of protein and corrosion and in the sorting for repair. Uses the proper cleaning and rinsing agents relative to type and amount, adjusts the temperature for safety and effectiveness, follows correct procedure for loading and for operating the washer through all cycles, removes the items and distributes them appropriately.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
* Thoroughly inspects rigid, flexible scopes and delicate instrument as part of the proactive quality assurance program. Participates in the coordination of audits within the department. Documents the outcome and reports to the supervisor any discrepancies. Accurately documents and enters in SPM all set, records and instrument audits.
* Performs and documents quality assurance processes, and random sampling of products according to protocol.Demonstrate skill to recognize quality problems and correct them prior to the product leaving the department. Participates in a proactive quality assurance program and documents all failures. Thoroughly and correctly assess samples to ensure quality on the end product. Effective and accurately randomly audits sample trays following established protocol documenting failures. Is knowledgeable and is able to describe the quality assurance process as well as all projects in progress. Actively participates in selecting issues/processes to be audit.
* Performs and documents quality assurance processes, and random sampling of products according to protocol.Demonstrate skill to recognize quality problems and correct them prior to the product leaving the department. Participates in a proactive quality assurance program and documents all failures. Thoroughly and correctly assess samples to ensure quality on the end product. Effective and accurately randomly audits sample trays following established protocol documenting failures. Is knowledgeable and is able to describe the quality assurance process as well as all projects in progress. Actively participates in selecting issues/processes to be audit.
* Effectively enters, modifies and searches information in the instrument tracking system. Thoroughly understand the function and purpose of the SPM Instrument Tracking System. Understands and utilizes all functions according to protocol. Demonstrate skill in the operation of the application. Accurately incorporates the scanning of all tasks, transactions and sets processed into the daily productivity record. Efficiently and accurately maintains the productivity level within the set standard of 85%. Selects the appropriate department and tasks to be scanned. Utilizes all codes assigned to the different functions. Utilizes all codes available and understand the importance of deleting the personal information before moving on to another task.
* Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization processes, documentation and delivery of sterile packages.Demonstrate knowledge and understanding by explanation of the functional operation of the steam, gas, plasma and pareacidic acid sterilizers in terms of time, temperature, pressure, and humidity. Describes what happens during each phase of the complete sterilization cycle. Demonstrate the operation of the sterilizers in terms of: selection of cycle, temperature selection, sterilizing-time selection, drying-time selection, closing and opening of door at beginning and end of cycle. Is able to describe the function of all dials and gauges on the sterilizer panel. Recognizes alarms and follows through with a corrective action. Demonstrate the use and function of the sterilizer recording print-outs in terms of reading the parameters to check the functioning of sterilizer, initialing the print out, and filing the print-out in the appropriate sterilizer log-book. Documents and reports any discrepancies with the load.
* Demonstrates knowledge of major surgical instruments preparation and assembly, inspection and packaging.Selects and inspects all the required instruments for each set used in the OR; arranges them in the proper sequence and in a manner for effective sterilization; adds the sterilization integrator, adds the assembly list, wraps, seals, and/or containerize; labels each set appropriately. Demonstrates knowledge of packaging techniques; use of appropriate package according to size, proper labeling of contents, proper sealing of packages (tape, heat seal or container locks), an appropriate internal integrator in each package, proper safeguarding of items needing protection in packaging (scissor ends, delicate instruments, etc.). Ensures the correct set label is affixed on the appropriate pack/container.
* Thoroughly disassembles instruments, and mobile patient equipment for cleaning and ensures all bio-burden material is removed. Inspects important points in instruments and equipment to ensure they are functioning properly and there is no damage. Documents damaged instrumentation into SPM and understand the importance of reporting discrepancies. Efficiently maintains the flow of surgical instrument trays from the mechanical washer into the staging area. Thoroughly practices and is cognizant of universal standard precautions.
* Demonstrates knowledge of the function and operation of the decontamination equipment for optimum cleaning, loading, temperature and troubleshooting. Utilizes appropriately personal protective equipment according to departmental policy. Demonstrates the understanding that some items are cleaned and decontaminated for further processing, while some are merely sanitized, cleaned, disinfect and checked. It is cognizant of cross contamination prevention.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or the equivalent. Current certification for Central Service by an accredited agency as IAHCSMM or the National Certification for Surgical Technologist. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and do basic mathematical calculations. Position may require flexible work schedule, weekends and holidays. Must have one of the following: (1) Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), (2) Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER), or (3) Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER).
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of specific health care products, patient care equipment, surgical instruments, medical terminology and basic use is required. Completion of formal central service technician or surgical technologist education program.Basic computer skills.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $39,601.12 - $50,960.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
