    Position Summary:

    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Scientist.

    The Institute for Innovations in Medical Education (IIME) at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine is seeking a scientist to be an essential member of our research team. IIME is dedicated to advancing medical education scholarship and instituting best practices for patient-centered, evidence-based medical education. IIMEs mission is to support the development of research and practice that strengthen linkages between physician training and patient health and well-being.

    DiagnosisAId is an innovative project which will leverage insights from an existing AI-informed clinical reasoning tool and the extensive data in NYU Langone Healths electronic health record to create a novel AI system; this system seeks to identify and signal cases of potential diagnostic error to trainees and deliver personalized just-in-time educational resources that may help mitigate them. This new system could improve patient care by reducing diagnostic errors while providing an innovative educational resource to trainees at NYU Langone Health.

    Job Responsibilities:

    Under the direction of the IIME Director of Research, key responsibilities include:

    * Leading a program of research on the application of AI/NLP/LLMs toward education, including education on diagnostic and management reasoning 
    * Collaborating on the design, implementation, and dissemination of the results of studies of assessment of diagnostic accuracy among trainees
    * Mentoring data scientists collaborating on IIME projects to enhance impact of their projects and advance their careers managing research projects and grants, including meeting project timelines and deliverables, following IRB procedural and ethical requirements, and supervising research staff
    * Writing and submitting grant applications to obtain external funding for supporting IIME’s research agenda, including AHRQ, NIH, and foundations
    * Engaging actively with IIME’s Precision and Translational Medical Education Laboratory
    * 
    

    The scientist is also expected to take advantage of NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s rich ecosystem of education data (a comprehensive education data warehouse) closely connected with our clinical data systems as well as the outstanding data science resources available across research areas (e.g., Predictive Analytics Unit, DataCore, Vilcek Bioinformatics Graduate Programs, NYU Tandon School of Engineering, Biostatistics and Department of Population Health methodological faculty, Washington Square’s computational departments and centers for applied statistics).

    Minimum Qualifications:
    To qualify you must have a MS degree and 2-4 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    PhD in mathematics, computer science/engineering, linguistics or related field.
    Qualified candidates will have the following skills and qualifications:
    - Fluency with Python and SQL
    - Expertise with NLP pipelines and LLMs
    - Strong analytic skills including statistical analysis, modeling, machine learning/AI
    - Strong written and oral communication skills
    - Record of publications in and evidence of contributions to relevant fields
    - In-depth understanding of and ability to make use of a broad range of research designs and methodologies.
    Familiarity with Epic electronic health record databases (Clarity and/or Caboodle) and Healthcare data standards and ontologies, such as ICD-10-CM and UMLS preferred.

    NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $70,000.00-$85,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
