    PRN: PreOp PACU Registered Nurse -

    No Holidays, No Weekends and No call required!

    The FT Preoperative and Postoperative Registered Nurse (RN) at Western Carolina Surgery Center is a vital member of our healthcare team, providing exceptional preoperative and post op nursing care to patients without the requirement of working holidays, weekends, or on-call shifts. This position offers flexibility and an opportunity to contribute to patient care in a multispecialty surgery center setting.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Preoperative Duties:

    1. Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough preoperative assessments to collect patient medical histories, vital signs, and current medications.

    2. Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on the surgical process, postoperative care instructions, and any necessary preparations.

    3. Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications, including preoperative sedatives and antibiotics, in accordance with physician orders and best practices.

    4. Infection Control: Ensure strict adherence to infection control protocols to minimize the risk of surgical site infections.

    5. IV Line Management: Establish and maintain intravenous (IV) lines as required, and monitor fluid and electrolyte balance.

    6. Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the surgical team, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth flow of preoperative preparations.

    Postoperative Duties:

    1. Recovery Care: Provide postoperative care to patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), monitoring vital signs, pain levels, and overall well-being.

    2. Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients' comfort and safety, managing pain and addressing any immediate postoperative concerns.

    3. Assessment: Continuously assess patients for signs of complications or adverse reactions, taking prompt action as needed.

    4. Medication Management: Administer postoperative medications, including pain management and antiemetics, while closely monitoring their effects.

    5. Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, documenting all care provided, observations, and patient responses.

    6. Discharge Planning: Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patients are ready for discharge and providing discharge instructions.

    Required Skills

    • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a current RN license in the state of North Carolina.
    • Previous experience in a preoperative and postoperative nursing role.
    • BLS and ACLS Certifications are required.
    • Excellent Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
    • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, adapting to a fast-paced surgical environment.
    • Availability: This PRN position offers flexibility, with no holidays, no weekends, and no on-call requirements.

    USPI complies with federal, state, and/or local laws regarding mandatory vaccination of its workforce.
