    Job Summary

    The Network Special Education Coordinator at James Irwin Charter Schools is responsible for the oversight and strategic management of special education services across the network, ensuring that these services align with the school's mission to help students achieve their potential in a rigorous, character-based educational environment. This role involves the development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive special education programs that meet the diverse needs of students from ages 5 to 21, in accordance with district, state, and federal regulations.

    Essential Job Functions

    Leadership and Vision: Provides leadership to ensure continuous improvement and development of the special education department in alignment with the school’s mission.

    Community and Resource Development: Builds partnerships with community resources, parents, and other educational institutions to enhance program effectiveness and student development.

    Program Development and Evaluation: Oversees the design, implementation, and assessment of special education programs, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and policies and alignment with the district’s strategic goals.

    Staff Management and Development: Directs and supports special education staff through recruitment, training, and evaluation processes to maintain high standards of education and care.

    Financial Management: Manages budgets and funding, including grants and federal aid, to ensure the efficient use of resources in delivering special education services.

    Policy and Compliance: Develops policies and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, actively updating procedures to meet legal standards and educational requirements.

    Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicates with all stakeholders, including staff, parents, the Board, and community members, about special education programs, policies, and student progress.

    Required Qualifications

    • Educational Background: Master's degree in education, Special Education, or Education Administration
    • Experience: Minimum of three years of experience in special education, with at least two years in administrative role
    • Certifications: Relevant state certification in special education leadership or administration

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in developing and managing special education programs in a charter school environment
    • Proven track record of innovative program development and leadership in special education

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Deep understanding of special education law and instructional practices
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop teams
    • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to engage with and respect diverse community and educational backgrounds

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements

    • Typical office and educational settings with moderate noise levels
    • Must be able to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
    • Travel to other schools will be required frequently
