    THIS TITLE IS IN A CIVIL SERVICE COMPETITIVE CLASS THAT IS SUBJECT TO EXAMINATION.  POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO CANDIDATES WHO HAVE PERMANENT NYC CIVIL SERVICE STATUS AS EDUCATION OFFICER, OR CANDIDATES WHO TOOK THE MOST RECENT EDUCATION OFFICER CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION.

     

    POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Director of SESIS Training - Special Education, with broad scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, the SESIS Online Learning Specialist will assist the existing training team in developing, redesigning, and maintaining the Special Education Student Information System (SESIS) training strategy, including its implementation and the evaluation of professional development outcomes. The SESIS Online Learning Specialist will oversee the development of accessible training resources and will develop accessible online learning modules to support the Department of Education staff with disabilities. The SESIS Online Learning Specialist will identify professional development opportunities as well as execute appropriate training initiatives that build the skills of SESIS users.

     

    The SESIS Online Learning Specialist will support the ongoing, long-term improvement of SESIS user skills, enabling users to effectively use the SESIS application to support students with disabilities in public, non-public, and charter schools. The SESIS Online Learning Specialist is responsible for augmenting the capabilities of existing training resources and designing, facilitating, and evaluating learning sessions, and to be strategic rather than reactive in assessing the skills and knowledge of DOE SESIS users and determining what training is needed for them to grow and retain their skills. The SESIS Online Learning Specialist will provide technical assistance in SESIS Training Modules’ evaluation and implementation, and in the planning and preparation of materials for use in SESIS learning sessions. In addition, the SESIS Online Learning Specialist will develop online learning resources and computer-based training modules for providing instruction on using the SESIS application.

     

    The SESIS Online Learning Specialist will serve as the liaison between the SESIS Training Team, SEO Communication, and Instructional Teams to ensure that SESIS communications and training resources are aligned with the Special Education Policy and Content Framework. The SESIS Online Learning Specialist will support the Division of Specialized Instruction and Student Support by maintaining the Office’s InfoHub pages, ensuring that all materials are fully accessible and aligned with Special Education Policy. Performs related work.

     

    REPORTS TO: Director of SESIS Training – Special Education

     

    DIRECT REPORTS: N/A

     

    KEY RELATIONSHIPS: The SESIS Online Learning Specialist will work in collaboration with the SESIS core project team members: SESIS Test Team Lead, Subject Matter Experts, SESIS Workstream Leads, Strategy and Operations Leadership from DSISS, Borough/Citywide Offices, Charter Schools, Non-Public Schools, and school- and central-based staff regarding the integration, deployment, and implementation of SESIS.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Assists in the compilation and analysis of quantitative and qualitative information about SESIS training sessions, and online learning modules.
    • Serves as liaison between the Special Education Instructional Team and the SESIS Training Team.
    • Utilizes JIRA to assign and track SESIS training activities.
    • Provides technical advice and assistance to program staff in all phases of measuring SESIS training session’s effectiveness or implementation.
    • Researches learning strategies to develop complex web-based and online training solutions for SESIS end users, including an end-to-end SESIS interactive training tool.
    • Supports the SESIS training program development by providing input into the training plan, attendee registration, delivery, and evaluation activities.
    • Assists in the design of the training curriculum; conducts training sessions.
    • Develops and supervises the accessibility project framework.
    • Manages the SESIS InfoHub Page and SESIS Wiki.
    • Uses Cornerstone to manage training attendance.
    • Promotes staff buy-in and collects required feedback from users of SESIS.
    • Communicates training activity, leveraging multiple communication venues to share relevant information.
    • Works with staff and colleagues to ensure an effective, integrated approach to using SESIS.
    • Helps to develop and create SESIS training videos from start to finish, including scripting, storyboard and edits, using Captivate 8, Adobe Connect, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
    • Evaluates training utilizing Survey Monkey.
    • Uses blended learning solutions.
    • Creates and design instructor guides and end user manuals for instructor-led courses.
    • Provides training, guidance, and support to other trainers.
    • Assists with the development of training methods and materials.
    • Manages videos, including uploading to Vimeo and monitors viewership.
    • Uses HP Quality Center to develop release notes.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

     

    MINIMUM  

     

    1. A master’s degree from an accredited college in education, guidance, educational administration and supervision, or a related field; or
    2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and one (1) year of full-time satisfactory professional experience in educational program administration, career or occupational program administration, or as a state certified or licensed teacher; or
    3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization plus five (5) years of full-time, satisfactory professional experience in education administration in one or more of the areas listed in "2" above; or
    4. A combination of education and/or experience which is equivalent to the requirements in "1," "2," and “3” above. However, all candidates must have at least an approved four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.

    • Ability to develop web-based training methods, curriculum, and design training materials.
    • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
    • Ability to plan, multitask, and manage time effectively.
    • Initiative and the ability to offer new ideas.
    • Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to work with people at all levels and motivate others.
    • Internal candidates preferred.

     

     

    SALARY: $70,370+

    (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not make less than their current salary.)
