    Job Description

    Academic Year Internship Program:

    • Program Dates: 2 Semesters
    • Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need. We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.
    • Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work at the station in Salt Lake City, Utah.

    Telemundo Utah:

    The Telemundo Utah News Internship provides students with real world experience and exposure to working in a a high-energy newsroom. Interns may gain experience on the Assignment Desk, writing/producing, and/or with working on our digital platforms.

    Successful interns will demonstrate a passion for learning and the ability to step out of their comfort zone. We are looking for students who are highly motivated and who can function as a team member or independently in a fast-paced news environment.

    Interns are introduced to every aspect of our news operation, within a structured and supervised environment. Local news interns spend time in each unit observing, learning, and participating.

    Desired Backgrounds Include: Journalism or Broadcast Journalism, Digital/New Media Studies, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Production, English, Social Media, Research.

    During their rotation, intern will:

    • Participate in daily editorial process: planning, researching, newsgathering, logging, writing and editing.
    • Learn editorial and technical aspects of news gathering.
    • Shadow producers and assignment editors.
    • Produce individual news stories for demo reels and online.
    • Research viewer calls and tips and assist on the assignment desk.
    • Create individual special project opportunities.
    • Interns should have some experience in journalism, at least in the classroom, but preferably in a television newsroom setting.
    • Schedule requirements: Interns should be willing to work a variety of shifts in order to get the best experience. Interns should be able to work at least two full weekdays.
    • Learn to produce content for linear and multiplatform OTT/Fast Channel, web.
    • Shadow and learn “line producing” and managing live remotes.
    • Pitch, shoot, write, edit and report news and features for Multiplatform
    • Produce daily newscasts, live special coverage, and other programs for multi platforms.
    • Cut video from linear shows for use on websites, apps and social media
    • Identify opportunities for graphics and data visualization
    • Shadow digital editors, TV producers, assignment desk editors and other news team members
    • Assist with social media

    Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to:

    • News Producer

    • Technical Director/Editor

    • Multimedia Journalist

    • Multiplatform Producer

    Qualifications

    Basic Requirements:

    • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (2025).
    • In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution and be able to provide documentation to confirm your degree progress.
    • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
    • Must be bilingual in English/Spanish (written and verbal).
    • Must be 18 years of age or older.
    • Must be authorized to work in the United States throughout the entire duration of the internship.
    • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
    • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week
    • Must be willing to work at the station in Salt Lake City, Utah.

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
    • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
    • Previous internship experience or on-campus involvement
    • Ability to work effectively in a high-intensity environment, often under tight deadline pressures.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
    • Strong interest in and demonstrated knowledge of current affairs.
    • Excellent computer skills (specially search skills).

    INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ATTENDING U.S. UNIVERSITIES:

    To participate in NBCUniversal’s 2025 Academic Year internship program, you must confirm at the time of interview that you will be able to provide US work authorization documentation for the entire duration of the internship. Since the NBCU Academic Year Internship Program spans the traditional “Spring” and “Fall” semesters, you should talk to the DSO at your school’s International Students Services Office about your need to apply for CPT work authorization twice to ensure you are authorized to work both semesters and throughout the entirety of the program.

    Please also note that future visa sponsorship at NBCUniversal is rarely available for post-grad employment opportunities.
