Senior Systems Engineer (PLC-based Controls)

McKean Defense is seeking multiple Sr. Systems Engineers to support an exciting opportunity to support a new U.S. Navy ship program. We are seeking Sr. Systems Engineers with the ability to apply strong work ethic to support the development, deployment, and maintenance of machinery control systems. Duties include the design/development of PLC-based control system and software specifically tailored to US Navy ships. The candidate must be able to work independently to review and update as-built ship drawings, elementary wiring drawings, and coordinate work with other team members both local and remote. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Participate in requirements development and design reviews of next generation test tools including prototypes.
Develop test procedures to exercise requirements of current and future systems.
Modify existing simulator software and hardware to support ship control and bridge systems requirements.
Troubleshoot existing hardware and software.
Provide design support for integration of equipment in an industrial/shipboard environment.
Provide machinery control system commissioning and testing.
Program and modify new and existing programmable logic controller (PLC) programs for control systems.
Interpret and design sensor/control circuitry for PLC based systems.
Contribute creation of the code as well as testing and debugging for implementation in production.
Work with Production team to help quickly identify and resolve problems.
Research, develop and apply advanced engineering concepts in the solution of complex manufacturing problems.
Reviews new designs for production ability, considering cost, quality, safety, delivery, production capabilities.
Evaluate existing production equipment and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
Required Skills
Demonstrated electrical troubleshooting skills.
Experience in setting up and fielding PLCs. Familiarity with Rockwell/Siemens PLC platforms is preferred.
Ability to troubleshoot software and hardware issues related to embedded systems.
Manage and prioritize multiple project timelines.
Demonstrated problem solving abilities.
Travel up to 25%
Required Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 5 - 10 years of experience
Prior background with Ship Systems Engineering preferred.
Previous experience in writing test procedures and conducting test events.
Previous experience with field startups.
Software Development experience is a plus but not required (C/C++, JAVA or Python).
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
