    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Bulk Power System Awareness Analyst is responsible for monitoring electrical and other conditions affecting the bulk power system and rapidly facilitating communication regarding abnormal or emergency conditions among NERC staff, appropriate stakeholders and governmental agencies.  Bulk Power System Awareness Analyst reports to the Director, of Situation Awareness and Personnel Certifications. 

    YOUR ROLE

    ·  Monitor NERC reliability applications, including but not limited to:

    §  Reliability Coordinator Information System (RCIS)

    §  NERC 24-hour Emergency Hotline

    §  Situational Awareness for FERC, NERC and Regions system (SAFNRv3)

    §  CERTS applications, including Resource Adequacy and Intelligent Alarms

    §  NERC Reliability Coordinator Hotline.

    ·         Identify potential reliability threats to the bulk power system and support the development of NERC Alerts and awareness products.

    ·         Participate in scheduling and coordinating conference calls with Regional Entity staff and government agencies during abnormal system conditions.

    ·         Support NERC staff by developing reports for daily system awareness briefings and special reports regarding abnormal conditions.

    ·         Develop status reports and background material for weekly briefings with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the Regional Entities.

    ·         Implement NERC’s Crisis Action Plan during emergency system conditions.

    ·         Participate in readiness drills and exercises conducted by Regional Entities, Reliability Coordinators and government agencies.

    ·         Develop and maintain good working relationships with the six Regional Entity staffs, and government agency staffs in the U.S. and Canada (especially U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, , and Canada National Energy Board).

    ·         Participate in the Events Analysis Process.

    ·         Be familiar with and adhere to Information Technology Security Policies and procedures.

    ·         Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    ABOUT YOU

    YOU ARE A QUALIFIED CANDIDATE IF YOU HAVE—

    ·         Experience working as a reliability coordinator or transmission system operator

    ·         Strong written and verbal communications skills

    ·         Eight to ten years’ experience in real-time bulk power system operations

    ·         NERC certified at the Reliability Coordinator level

    ·         Ability to multi-task and work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment without direct supervision

    ·         Outstanding ability to work in a team-oriented environment

    ·         Strong attention to detail

    ·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point)

    ·         Supervisory experience in a real-time operations environment

    YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT CANDIDATE IF YOU—

    ·         Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering

    ·         Strong understanding of technical power system studies and analysis

    ·         Experience with root cause analysis as applied to power systems

    ·         Proficiency with audio/video/communications technologies

    OTHER

    ·         Background check will be conducted prior to employment.

    ·         In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

    ·         Ability to work irregular or extended hours during major events on the bulk power system as required.

    ·         Participation in 24x7 on-call rotation as BPS Awareness Duty Officer.

    ·         Passport required for North American travel.

    ·         This position has been classified as exempt.

    ·         Job is located in Atlanta, Georgia.
