    THIS POSITION IS SHORT TERM, MAX 1000 HOURS IN A CALENDAR YEAR

    North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customer's mission. Available employment opportunities may range from administrative and logistical support to advanced technical positions.

    Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

    Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.

    The Global Security (GS) Principal Directorate has an opening within the E-Program for a Computer Scientist. The successful candidate will have a strong background in mentorship and project management experience. Under minimal supervision, the successful candidate will provide computational sciences expertise and support outreach efforts for the High-Performance Computing for Energy Innovation Program. This position will be a 25% time. The successful candidate will be required to pass various on-site training modules to pursue work assignments.

    Essential Duties

    - Under direction from HPC4EI Management, assist with outreach to the manufacturing community to generate leads for potential industry partners.

    - Utilize their background and understanding of National Laboratory computing capabilities to help expand the programs network of industry partners.

    - Assist with promoting program benefits and opportunities by presenting at DOE sponsor events, conferences, and industry hosted events.

    - Aid new National Laboratory PIs launching their first HPC4EI projects.

    - Host sessions at conferences, workshops, and other events to showcase the work of HPC4EI PIs.

    - Assist in the development of promotional materials for the HPC4EI program, including web pages, fliers, and brochures.

    - Assist in the organization of HPC4EI events such as workshops, webinars, seminar series', etc.

    - Perform other duties as assigned.

    Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

    - Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computational Engineering, or equivalent combination of experience.

    - Successful experience presenting information to private sector and sponsor agencies both written and verbal.

    - Extensive experience mentoring early career scientists.

    - Extensive expertise related to manufacturing processes and utilizing modeling and simulation to improve them.

    - Extensive expertise related to AI, machine learning, and their application to industrial processes.

    - Understanding of DOE, DoD, and DHS mission needs and ability to utilize and recommend National Laboratory capabilities to advance support of mission areas.

    - Seasoned project management experience with a demonstrated ability to lead teams and provide thought leadership.

    - Attention to details in highly dynamic team environment.

    Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

    - Ability to travel in support of program objectives.

    - Experience with partnerships between government organizations and industrial partners.

    Special Requirements

    Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

    Anticipated Clearance Level: Q (position will be cleared to this level).
