    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Plans layouts, installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, equipment, and control equipment on marine vessels and shipyard buildings in accordance with plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Work with other crafts as instructed by supervision.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

    • Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
    • Comply with Company, federal, state, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations and policies while performing duties.
    • Install, maintain, and repair wiring, electrical systems and equipment on marine vessels and shipyard buildings.
    • Inspects systems and electrical parts to detect hazards, defects, and need for adjustments or repair.
    • Test internal circuits of major units of electrical equipment for continuity, short circuits, and grounds and measure electrical quantities and compare with established values.
    • Troubleshoot electrical equipment and circuits using appropriate test equipment to detect and affect required maintenance, repairs, or replacement requirements.
    • Perform maintenance and repair of generators, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, electrical motors, distribution panels, alarm systems and lighting circuits.
    • Maintain and repair electrical power generating and distribution systems; voltage regulators engine governors, and equipment; machinery monitoring and remote-control systems; power, control and display systems of shipboard equipment and DC propulsion generators, motors, and control circuits.
    • Work with minimal supervision.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Three to five years experience in electrical and electro-mechanical systems maintenance and repair preferably with two or more years on marine electrical system desired.
    • Requires working knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices involved in the installation, maintenance, repair and alteration of marine electrical and electro-mechanical systems.


    Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics, and ability to recognize problems through troubleshooting and ability to resolve these issues/problems. Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, including metrics.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the workday. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be physically and medically qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment, as prescribed under Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. The employee must be able to work above ground at heights of a minimum of 50 feet aloft and/or working from scaffolding and/or man-lifts while working with machinery; in confined spaces and withstand extreme heat and cold in an outside climate or confined space.
