    Job Overview

    AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to provide comprehensive diagnostic services at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. The selected candidate will perform a full range of nuclear medicine procedures, ensuring high-quality care and adherence to safety protocols.

    General Tasks

    Productivity: Maintain a level of productivity comparable to other professionals performing similar services.

    Peer Review and Improvement: Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.

    Aseptic Techniques: Comply with infection control guidelines, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious waste.

    Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, including radiation safety, to ensure the safety of patients and staff.

    Emergency Response: Perform efficiently in emergency situations, following established protocols.

    Legal and Ethical Awareness: Apply an understanding of legal issues in all aspects of patient care.

    Specific Tasks

    Diagnostic Studies: Calibrate nuclear medicine equipment and perform diagnostic imaging studies as prescribed by a physician using nuclear medicine scanners and scintillation cameras.

    Patient Interaction: Receive patients, explain nuclear medicine procedures, and alleviate any fear or anxiety. Position patients correctly and make necessary technical adjustments for the examination.

    Radiation Safety: Follow all radiation safety protocols for the use and disposal of radioactive materials in accordance with Naval Medical Center Portsmouth standards.

    Documentation: Log patient interactions, including arrival and departure, in the MHS Genesis system and maintain accurate records. Send images to the radiologist for interpretation via the PACS system.

    Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine calibrations, quality control checks, and initiate repair procedures for any equipment malfunctions. Maintain a detailed logbook of equipment issues.

    Emergency Procedures: Recognize and respond to adverse reactions to radiopharmaceuticals, and take necessary emergency measures, including notifying the radiologist and administering resuscitation if required.

    Schedule and On-Call Requirements

    Duty Hours: Services shall be provided Monday through Friday between 0600 and 1600 for eighty (80) hours per week. Shifts are typically 10 hours in length with an uncompensated meal break.

    On-Call Hours: The Contractor shall provide On-Call coverage Monday through Friday from 1600 to 0700 hours; and weekends and Federal Holidays from 0700 to 0700 of the following day. When paged, the HCW shall phone the MTF within ten (10) minutes. Compensation for On-Call services is separately priced.

    Call-Back Hours: The HCW may be called into the MTF to provide services. If required to report to the MTF, the HCW shall arrive at the Radiology department, prepared to provide services, thirty (30) minutes preceding radiopharmaceutical arrival. The Contractor will be reimbursed for not less than two (2) hours when the HCW is called in. It is estimated that up to 200 hours of call-back hours may be required annually.

    Qualifications

    Education: Graduate from an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Accredited Nuclear Medicine program.

    Certification: Certification from the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or ARRT – Nuclear Medicine. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

    Experience: Minimum of 12 months of continuous experience as a registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist within the last 24 months, including experience with digital imaging and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).

    Licensure/Registration: Active membership in the ARRT-NM registry.

    References: Provide two letters of recommendation written within the last two years attesting to your clinical skills. One must be from a practicing radiologist who has observed and evaluated your work.

    The primary site of services is the Department of Radiology and Radiation Oncology at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA, with potential assignments at associated Branch Medical Clinics and Tricare Prime Clinics within a 40-mile commuting radius. Notification will be provided 48 hours prior to reassignment.
