    Job Summary

    The Nurse Practitioner has the responsibility to practice medicine within the scope of licensure, training and credentialing according to the current standards of care, Medicare guidelines, Joint Commission standards, state law and quality criteria adopted by the hospital.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Demonstrate the ability to assess, plan and evaluate individual patient care appropriate to the age of patients served by demonstrating knowledge of the principles of growth and development to the age of patients served by the facility.
    • Be involved in educating the patient, their family and other staff members.
    • Communicate effectively with surgeons, patients, their family, other staff and other physicians.
    • Assist with insurance verification by contacting third party payers to communicate clinical information in a timely manner.
    • Write all needed orders and required documents in a timely manner.
    • Sign, date and time all signatures in the required time frame.
    • Follow hospital and departmental policies & procedures.
    • Dictate Discharge Summaries or progress notes that meet Medicare and Joint Commission requirements on all patients within the required time frame.
    • Write H&Ps that comply with Joint Commission and Medicare requirements as needed.
    • Write Prescriptions and Orders that comply with State Law, Medicare guidelines and Joint Commission standards.
    • Round with all the inpatients daily.
    • Ensure that a progress note is present on each medical record for each inpatient.
    • Facilitate and fill out needed documents to transfer patients to other facilities or for home care.
    • Complete continuing education requirements
    • Collaborate with Educator on teaching/supporting nursing team on education/competencies related to Critical Care and New Procedures
    • Direct care for emergencies in collaboration with medical/nursing team

    Required Skills

    • Graduate of an accredited program with a C.N.P. Degree
    • Experience preferred
    • Current License as an N.P. in the State of Tennessee
    • BLS, ACLS Required
    • Orthopedic or Neurosurgeon required
    • Able to prioritize and organize workload to meet needs of patients and unit.
    • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
    • Broad understanding of the needs of the surgical patient.
    • Flexible, reliable, productive, patient oriented, self-motivated.
    • Remains calm and functions as a team leader during times of stress and crisis situations.

    Required Experience
