    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) is an advanced practice healthcare professional responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management. The NP/PA utilizes advanced skills obtained through completion of NP approved educational program. These skills include advanced levels of assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care. The NP/PA manages a caseload of patients and coordinates decision making with the physician, in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice includes family support, discharge planning, patient education, and consultation. Outpatient clinical skills are highly preferred

    ** OVERVIEW OF JOB DUTIES ( denotes "essential function")***

    1. Demonstrates the Resilience Healthcare Customer Service Values, which are key in providing quality service to patients and customers.
    2. *Conducts a comprehensive interview and physical examination with each assigned patient; gathers pertinent information systematically and skillfully from all sources: history, diagnostic tests, physical examination, and behavioral assessments.
    3. Assists with inpatient rounds, inpatient consults, operative cases, and inpatients / outpatient procedures after adequate training is achieved.
    4. Effectively identifies, evaluates and addresses disease prevention and health promotion issues of the practice population while administering quality patient care.
    5. Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of acute, chronic and long-term healthcare issues.
    6. *Works in an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the medical staff, which allows for consultation, collaboration or referral.
    7. *Assesses patient adaptation, coping skills, and the need for crisis intervention.
    8. *Accurately interprets diagnostic results.
    9. *Analyzes multiple sources of data in making clinical judgment in determining the effectiveness of plan of care.
      • Maintains legible, accurate, and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnosis, procedures, treatment, outcomes, education, referrals and consultations. Develops problem lists with associated differential diagnoses.
    10. *Identifies educational needs of the patient and family, and educates patients and/or families about preventative care, medical issues, pre-and post operative education, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications.
    11. Incorporates all assessment findings into a plan to direct patient management.
    12. Some night call coverage with physician backup may be included once training is complete.
    13. Formulates a plan of care in collaboration with the family, physician, and other members of the healthcare team, which incorporates healthcare maintenance, discharge, and follow-up care.
    14. Appropriately prioritizes patient care.
    15. Plans and implements appropriate pharmacological therapies.
    16. Accurately and appropriately performs routine diagnostic and therapeutic techniques according to established protocols and standardized procedures for adult nurse practitioner practice.
    17. Evaluates adult physiological and behavioral responses to interventions for revision of management plan.
    18. Communicates with the patient and family regarding the changing healthcare needs.
    19. Initiates referrals based on patient/family needs
    20. Accurately presents and documents the assessment, impression, and plan of care.
    21. Promotes, has knowledge of, and utilizes appropriate patient care protocol relating to the physical and psychological needs of adult patients.
    22. Establishes and maintains a collaborative relationship with healthcare colleagues.
    23. Demonstrates effective use of verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills, using strategies that promote problem resolution
    24. Identifies mechanisms to determine the future direction of the Nurse Practitioner. Analyzes new knowledge gained from conferences, workshops, professional literature or “hands on training” and assimilates this knowledge into clinical practice.
    25. Identifies and clarifies the Nurse Practitioner role to patients and family members.
    26. Participates in self and peer evaluation to improve quality of care.
    27. Participates in the development, review, and evaluation, of adult nurse practitioner procedures.
    28. Identifies ethical dilemmas involved in the evaluation and management of the adult patient.
    29. Attains and maintains membership in professional organizations concerned with improving the quality of patient care.
