    Job Description

    The Simulation and Skills Lab Manager is responsible for managing the day- day operation of the Nursing Simulation Center and Skills Lab within the Unitek family of colleges. Specifically, this person manages the preparation, maintenance, inventory, and operation of all simulation equipment and supplies. This includes but is not limited to collaborating with faculty to run simulation activities that support the learners’ achievement of the course and program outcomes. Use of data to support simulation accreditation initiatives and standards is a key aspect of this role, along with oversight of direct reports related to the operation of simulation. This role’s main purpose is to implement healthcare simulation standards of best practice and ensure adherence to Unitek simulation policies and procedures.

    • Supervise the general operation of the nursing simulation center and skills labs, including managerial duties associated with having direct reports. Oversees the implementation of policies and procedures for simulation center and skills lab activities that provide for effective learning experiences and safe practice. Participates in the hiring process for skills lab and simulation faculty and staff.
    • Manages preparation and maintenance of simulation and skills lab equipment, media, computers, and supplies. Ensures required lab and simulation supplies are ordered and approved for each nursing skills lab and simulation experience.
    • Monitors and provides annual training needs for all simulation and skills lab faculty and staff to ensure compliance with standards of best practice and Unitek Learning policies and procedures. Manages faculty and student orientation to the nursing simulation center and skills lab environment.
    • Collaborates with faculty, National Director of Simulation, simulation center and skills lab staff in designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating simulation education, lab activities, and curriculum materials. Promotes an optimal learning environment in all simulation and lab areas for all participants and facilitators.
    • Actively participates in events including clinical skills practice and check-off sessions and provides support to students, faculty, and simulation educators. Teaches skills lab and simulation sessions as needed.
    • Evaluates effectiveness of the simulation center and skills lab operations and makes recommendations to the National Director of Simulation for improvement. Collects and uses data to analyze effectiveness of skills lab and simulation activities and operations. Maintains all standards required by regulatory and accrediting bodies, as well as best practices established by Unitek Learning.
    • Ensures that both the skills lab and simulation center are supervised by the appropriate levels of staff to serve day, evening, and weekend students’ schedules.
    • Maintains knowledge of current nursing practice and evidence-based research in simulation and clinical skills education. Serves as a member of college and organizational level committees as assigned.
    • Facilitates development of the nursing simulation center and skills lab equipment and staffing budgets. Makes recommendations for equipment purchases and staffing needs to maintain standards essential for effective student instruction.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Holds a valid, active, unencumbered license issued by the Board of Registered Nursing in the state of hire.
    • A minimum of a master’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or University that includes course work in nursing education, or administration. Terminal degree in nursing preferred.
    • Certification in simulation education (CHSE) or must obtain CHSE certification within two (2) years of hire. Must maintain certification while in this position.
    • A minimum of two years of teaching experience in pre- or post-licensure nursing programs. A minimum of one year of experience working or teaching in a nursing simulation setting.
    • At least two years of experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care and/or equivalent experience as determined by the Board of Nursing in the state of hire.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills.
