    Position Title – Demographical Specialist

    Position Goals

    This is the job description for the Demographical Specialist position for Specialty Healthcare Billing and Consulting (SHBC) and additionally provides criteria for the evaluation of the position. The Demographical Specialist position plays a critical part in the medical billing process and for the financial cycle of SHBC. Under the supervision of the Director of Billing and Demographics, the Demographical Specialist is responsible for verifying healthcare coverage, maintaining a positive relationship with patients and ensuring the patient has a positive experience with the clients we support. The Demographical Specialist will meet or exceed the daily and monthly productivity and performance goals set forth by the Director of Billing and Demographics. Additionally, the Demographical Specialist will have excellent customer service skills and can communicate effectively both written and verbally.

    Position Responsibilities

    Under the direction of the Director of Billing and Demographics, the Demographical Specialist for Specialty Healthcare Billing & Consulting will be responsible for, but not limited to:

    1. Performing new patient registrations
    2. Updating patient information and demographic data entry
    3. Verifying of patient insurance coverage as well as demographic information
    4. Fostering an excellent working relationship with patients to ensure an excellent image is projected for our clients.
    5. Engaging in conversation with patients to make sure they have received the best quality of care whilst enabling SHBC to provide fast and accurate medical billing services.
    6. Ensuring that customer service is a number one priority
    7. Accomplishing additional tasks as prescribed by the Director of Billing and Demographics

    Position Requirements

    The requirements for employment as the Demographical Specialist for Specialty Healthcare Billing & Consulting are:

    1. Excellent communication skillset; both written and verbal
    2. Understanding of Explanation of Benefits (EOBs)
    3. Proficiency in Microsoft MS Suite to include Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.
    4. Possessing a strong understanding of the medical billing process
    5. Must have a high level of patience when conducting business with customers of all demeanor

    Education/Experience

    High School Diploma or GED – required

    Some College – preferred

    2 years of experience in a high-paced, medical billing environment – minimum

    1 year of experience with working in a medical environment – desired

    Physical Demands

    1. Requires some bending, stooping, stretching
    2. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment
    3. Requires normal range of hearing and eye sight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports
    4. Requires lifting papers or boxes up to 50 pounds occasionally
    5. Requires dexterity to type 60 wpm or more
    6. Work is performed in an office environment. Involves frequent contact with staff
    7. Work may be stressful at times; high-pressured, fast-paced environment with significant telephone and personal disruption
    8. Must be willing to work overtime as needed to meet business objectives
