  • Responsibilities

    The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) is responsible for the execution of D’Youville University’s comprehensive marketing, communication, and branding strategies. The CMO is the head of the university’s Office of Communications & Marketing, with a central focus on driving marketing activities that align with and support of D’Youville’s mission, vision, and goals. The goal is to elevate the university’s academic reputation and overall brand.

    Job Summary:

    The Chief Marketing Officer Marketing oversees the development and implementation of a variety of marketing initiatives including brand awareness and ad campaigns, interactive marketing, social media strategies, marketing collateral, and implementation of market research and segmentation strategies. In addition, the CMO serves as a co-strategist for traditional, digital, and other media with department colleagues, members of the President’s Council, academic deans, and other campus leaders.

    The CMO reports directly to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and serves as the lead marketing officer for the university. In conjunction with senior university leadership, the CMO develops and/or supports core marketing messages that enhance the university's reputation and ensures that the university is well-positioned as a leader in higher education.

    Duties:

    • Provide vision and leadership for the university’s integrated marketing operations to include partnerships and integration with members of the President’s Council, undergraduate admissions, all academic units, and university athletics.
    • Develop and execute a university-wide marketing and branding strategy that drives awareness, demand, and growth for all academic programs, aligning with the university's strategic goals.
    • Ensure that all messaging, advertising, and promotions to emanating from the university are accurate, consistent, and present a unified image of the institution and its interests.
    • Articulate the value proposition of the university and effectively market the D’Youville story to external audiences.
    • Lead a university team (internal and/or outside partners) of communications professionals, web and graphic designers, project managers, marketing and editorial writers, and related professional staff.
    • Lead media training for university faculty, staff, students, and others as needed.
    • Plan and maintain a department budget.
    • When called upon, serve as university spokesperson on issues of importance to the university (media relations, marketing, communications, crisis matters).

    Qualifications:

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. Master’s Degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution in a relevant field is desired.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of ten years of relevant experience required, executive level experience in higher education or an aligned field is preferred.
    • Comprehensive computer skills, with the ability to learn new and emerging technology

    Skills & Abilities:

    • Extensive experience executing marketing strategies and campaigns for a complex organization like D’Youville University in the public, private, or nonprofit sector.
    • Proven ability to design and execute comprehensive marketing and communication plans in dynamic settings, consistently achieving successful outcomes.
    • Experience developing marketing literature for use with traditional and digital audiences.
    • Advanced knowledge of best practices for marketing and communication, including creative use of social media and other forms of digital communication.
    • Inclusive leadership approach that fosters teamwork, builds partnerships, and drives collective decision-making.
    • Presence and confidence to project credibility to university strategic stakeholders.
    • Experienced leader with a history of successfully serving as a spokesperson, providing effective responses to media inquiries and to represent D’Youville with poise and authority.

    Physical & Environmental Requirements:

    • Adept at managing multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously, with a strong ability to think creatively, solve complex problems, and drive innovative solutions.
    • Must possess a student-centered personal philosophy.
    • Ability to work occasional evening or weekend hours.
    • Uphold and abide by D’Youville University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX and Information Security, including but not limited to FERPA and other state and federal guidelines and mandates.
    • This position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity, and the ability to support the mission, vision, and purpose of D’Youville University.

    Pay: $100,000 - $120,000 Annually
