Role Overview
As an On-Call OB/GYN Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting labor and delivery at BirthEzy's birthing centers. Acting as a trusted leader and collaborator, you will provide comprehensive care for laboring patients, manage complications when necessary, and work closely with midwives, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Your expertise will be pivotal in delivering positive outcomes and fostering a culture of safety and empowerment for families.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Assessment and Management
- Evaluate laboring patients upon arrival, monitor fetal and maternal health, and assess labor progress.
- Make informed decisions on interventions, as needed, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
Delivery Procedures
- Support midwives in performing vaginal deliveries.
- Lead or assist with forceps or vacuum extractions and cesarean sections when indicated.
Complications Management
- Address potential complications during labor and postpartum, including abnormal fetal heart patterns, placental abruption, or hemorrhage.
- Provide rapid and evidence-based interventions in emergency situations.
Collaboration and Leadership
- Act as a key partner to midwives, nurses, and anesthesiologists, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Support the transition of care for high-risk pregnancies when hospital delivery is required.
Patient Education and Support
- Counsel patients on labor and delivery options, pain management, and postpartum recovery plans.
- Provide emotional support to patients and families throughout the birthing process.
Required Qualifications
- Medical degree and completion of an accredited OB/GYN residency program.
- Current medical license and board certification in OB/GYN.
- Experience managing labor and delivery, including high-risk pregnancies and operative deliveries.
- Exceptional clinical skills in labor assessment and complication management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust and collaboration.
- Experience in free-standing birth center care a plus.
Work Environment
- Primarily based on-call for BirthEzy's birthing centers.
- Flexible scheduling with availability for emergency deliveries and labor support.
