Job Title: On-call School Counselor
Department: Health Services
Reports to: Director of Health Services
Summary: The school on-call counselor is a part-time, mostly periodic weekend, position during the academic school year (6-7 weekends per year). The counselor will meet with students individually as needed and mostly over the phone but be available to come to campus as necessary. The counselor will work collaboratively with the faculty and administration. The counselor will communicate effectively with parents, faculty, administrators and students.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Counsel students who need social/emotional support individually and in small groups
- Communicate effectively with the parents of the students being counseled
- Recommend, in partnership with the School, more interventions or outside services if needed
- Document and manage information as it pertains to students being counseled
- Consult with faculty around identified students
- Support in dorm and out of dorm faculty working with students
- Serve on the crisis intervention team if needed
- Stay up to date on current laws and professional practices as they pertain to middle school aged adolescents
- Remain current on mental health services in independent schools
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Minimal M.S.W. or M.E.D.
- Current license is regularly maintained
- Three years experience working with middle school children/adolescents ranging in ages from 11-17
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to parents, students, faculty, staff, administration, and allied professionals
