Onsite Engineering Advisor - Critical Facilities - Ashburn, VA
Our client is a Engineering Design and Commissioning Company that is a subject matter expert in the data center space. This role will be onsite at a the Customer's Data Center. They will provide onsite design, commissioning consulting and management expertise in Data Center / Mission Critical Facilities Space with the mindset to provide reliability, energy efficiency, sustainable design and LEED expertise when providing these consulting services for an Enterprise Customer in the Financial Services. Work onsite at client's data center. Act as the technical resource / advisor onsite for design, operations, and commissioning to execute assignments in a multidisciplinary role for critical facilities operations. The ideal candidate will have past experience with electrical systems specifically for large data centers. They will have experience and in-depth knowledge of Electrical Power Distribution System design, installation, commissioning and operations. Previous experience with electrical equipment design to include Generators, UPS systems and electrical switchgear is a must. You must also possess Mechanical / HVAC experience as well. You will help support the critical infrastructure team.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee projects, assist with design- plans, provide and gather specifications, and execute assignments in a multidisciplinary electrical engineering design role for medium to large sized data center facility design projects
- Assist with Conceptual Designs gathered from meetings with the client for Field Engineer focus
- Support Data Center Operations with any design upgrades at the site
- Work with Management to create / respond to RFPs
- Represent the company in project meetings as needed
- Write comprehensive reports when needed which include the following sections: recommendations for optimizing building operations, functional checklists, list of deficiencies, equipment operation and maintenance manuals
- Review design criteria, specifications, drawings, equipment submittals, and other documentation pertinent to engineering design and commissioning
- Understand functional tests for various systems, such as: electrical distribution systems, UPS, standby generators, etc.
- System Assembly; Commission plan preparation ; Follow company QC process and procedures
- Attend commissioning meetings, construction and coordination meetings
- Interface with clients, contractors, equipment vendors and owners agents as needed;
- Execute project assignments; Interface with project contractors, vendors, and testing technicians; Interact with all facets of the company: engineering, design, when requested
- Assist with field troubleshooting of commissioned equipment as needed; Field experience in the operation and application of Power Quality Analyzers, Power Disturbance Analyzers, Data loggers, and related system testing equipment
Qualifications:
- 5-15 years experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar engineering degree a plus
- Licensed PE / EIT a Plus
- Experience with AutoCAD for minor tweaks for any design plans a plus
- Previous experience using: Revit MEP projects, BIM a plus
- Experience with Electrical Power Systems such as UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), Generators, Switchgears, and Batteries a MUST
- Previous Data Center / Mission Critical experience a must
- Electrical equipment testing experience in a Critical Facilities / facility environment
- Ability to successfully work independently
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal (this role requires heavy amount of writing, documentation, and client interaction)
- Self Starter, self motivated, and should prioritize well
- Previous experience in the Military / Military Veterans a huge plus! Experience with Electrical / Mechanical: Navy nukes - EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, Army National Guard, etc.
