    Job description

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

    Conducts intakes and assesses patient needs and make nursing judgments that reflect safe nurse practices.

    Cleans instruments and equipment and maintains stock of supplies.

    Conducts specified laboratory tests as directed by the Nurse Manager standing orders.

    Explains process to patient and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination.

    Maintains accurate patient records under the supervision of the Nurse Manager.

    Attends medical conferences that offer professional training and information pertinent to the center’s practices to meet State CME requirements.

    Responsible for reading and implementing the Medical Policy and Procedure Manual.

    Circulating/Peri-Operative Responsibilities:

    The circulating nurse is responsible for managing all nursing care within an operating room.

    Acting as an advocate for the patient before, during, and after surgery.

    Calling/Performing an official “TIME OUT”.

    Monitoring and recording the patient's vitals pre-procedure and possible during.

    Recording every aspect of an operation, including the names and titles of those performing the surgery, the tools used, the amount of anesthetic a patient received, how long the surgery lasted, and a patient health assessment.

    Advising the surgical team on potential harm to the patient during surgery.

    Escorting patients to the recovery room post-procedure.

    Accounting for all tools used during the procedure.

    Coordinating and recording activities in the event of an emergency.

    Pre-Op/Recovery Room/PACU Responsibilities:

    The Pre-Operative and Post-Operative Nurse is responsible for managing nursing care before and after a surgical procedure.

    Providing nursing care to patients via monitoring, assessment, intervention, and continuous reassessment.

    Assess patients prior to surgery.

    Ensure that operative and informed consents are signed and in order.

    Monitor and record vitals of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure.

    Initiate IVs and ensure that patients are informed about the procedure.

    Assess patients’ post-operative condition.

    Monitor vital signs.

    Record all findings in patient files.

    Answer patient questions and ensure they are kept comfortable.

    Monitor patients for condition changes and report any changes to the physician.

    Perform intervention duties in cases of post-operative emergency.

    Educate patients and caregivers on preoperative care instructions and postoperative care instructions.

    Medical Supplies & Inventory

    Monitor supplies weekly to ensure adequate supplies are available

    Stock rooms & medical supply room

    Order medical supplies

    Keep the medical supply room clean and organized

    Other

    Perform and maintain accreditation duties as assigned by OR manager

    OR Staff Scheduling

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Degree from an accredited school/college of nursing required

    At least two years of OR experience preferred

    Current RN License in Illinois required

    Current BLS & ACLS Certification in Illinois required
