    Job Description

    A Day in the Life:

    PRT is seeking a full-time Operations Manager to be based in Howell, MI at PRT Brighton. As a member of the local management team the Operations Manager has the opportunity to work with the most innovative conifer seedling producer in the industry with a focus on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. In addition to involvement in the day-to-day operations associated with container seedling production, the Operations Manager is required to give direct supervision to employees, performing a generalized job function with continuous oversight to ensure nursery efficiency. This includes, but is not limited to; sowing, thinning, lifting, blackout, cold storage & shipping. This position is responsible for directing personnel in accordance with operational work plans and cultural requirements, with a focus on employee productivity, record keeping, and ensuring both safe working conditions and quality standards are met.

    Key Accountabilities of the Operations Manager:

    • Supervise container seedling production
    • Assist the Nursery Manager with planning and achieving production targets
    • Ensure proper maintenance of the facility and equipment
    • Finalize Inventory
    • Keep neat and accurate records
    • Manage labor force
    • Correspond with customers
    • Follow and enforce safe work practices
    • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement
    • Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels
    • Set targets (i.e., production, timelines) and evaluate achievement

    About the team:

    The Operations Manager will report to the Nursery Manager at PRT Brighton.

    Required/Minimum Qualifications & Skills:

    • A minimum of 3 years of nursery experience with good general knowledge about operational procedures, equipment, record keeping, stock quality and nursery safety issues.
    • Experience in a leadership role
    • Valid Driver’s License
    • Capability of performing manual work, both indoor and outdoor and in varying weather conditions
    • Proficient understanding of production processes, quality control principles, and safety regulations
    • Strong planning, organization, and time management skills
    • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct a root cause analysis.
    • Professional verbal and written communication skills
    • Robust computer skills with proficiency Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Work, Outlook)
    • Communicate with honesty, kindness and respect

    Additional or Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

    • A degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry is an asset but the equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.
    • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions
