JOB SUMMARY
The OPERATOR II is responsible for operating heavy machinery on multiple job sites; slope and assist in installing and removing shoring from ditches and other related excavations; observe pipe laying for safety reasons, assist in locating utilities; maintain sub-grade and assist in setting upgrade and centerline; load trucks in a safe and accident-free manner; communicate with others using verbal and non-verbal hand signals while operating equipment; handle 20’ pipe joints; lead and assist in changing out backhoe buckets and hoe rams and performs others duties as assigned.

Operating Heavy Equipment:
Operating various types of heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and other specialized machinery.
experience of operating equipment weighing 50,000 lbs and more
Manipulating equipment controls to move, lift, and place materials, such as earth, rock, and debris.
Transporting materials and equipment around the construction site.
Safety and Maintenance:
Inspecting equipment before and after use to ensure it is in proper working condition.
Performing routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, lubrication, and minor repairs.
Following all safety procedures and regulations while operating equipment.
Reporting any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to supervisors.
Project-Specific Tasks:
Working on a variety of civil construction projects, including road construction, bridge building, and infrastructure development.
Performing tasks such as grading, leveling, excavating, and clearing debris.
Following blueprints, plans, and instructions provided by supervisors.
Other Duties:
Loading and unloading materials from trucks and other vehicles.
Assisting other construction workers with various tasks.
Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Maintenance:
Understanding basic maintenance procedures, such as fluid checks, tire pressure, and recognizing potential issues, is essential for ensuring equipment reliability and safety.
Construction Math:
Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions) are important for tasks like calculating material quantities, slopes, and grades.
Blueprint Reading:
The ability to interpret blueprints and construction plans is necessary to understand project requirements and perform work accurately.
Hydraulics and Mechanics:
A basic understanding of how heavy equipment hydraulics and mechanics work can help with troubleshooting and maintenance.
Machine Operation:
Proficiency in operating various types of heavy equipment, including precision maneuvering, loading, and unloading, is a must.
Problem-Solving:
The ability to identify and resolve mechanical or operational issues quickly and efficiently is important.
Communication:
Clear and effective communication with supervisors, other crew members, and the public is essential, especially in a team environment.
Time Management:
Working efficiently and meeting project deadlines requires strong time management skills.
Physical Strength:
Many heavy equipment operator jobs require being able to lift and carry large objects.
OSHA Regulations:
Construction equipment operators need to be aware of OSHA regulations and other safety guidelines in order to complete projects safely.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Five years of operating experience excavating trenches at depths of 5’-20’
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
OSHA 30 Certification
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Must pass a criminal background check
Must pass a drug screening
Ability to work in various conditions with exposure to weather elements
Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions, including standing. reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs., carrying, and climbing)

WORK CONDITIONS
