    Ophthalmic Photographer/Angiographer

    Summary

    Austin Retina Associates is seeking a responsible, self-motivated individual for a full-time retinal angiographer position.

    The Diagnostic Technician is responsible for performing state-of-the-art diagnostic testing for all Faculty at Austin Retina. Technicians will perform technical testing, clinical support and patient care for various physicians.

    Duties

    • Performs diagnostic testing for physicians including OCTs, fundus photos, fluorescein angiography, ICG angiography, A/B/UBM scans (ultrasound), and visual fields to include:

    OCT, Anterior & Posterior Segment

    Fundus Photography

    Ultra Wide Field Fundus Imaging

    Auto-Fluorescence Imaging

    Fluorescein Angiography including venipuncture

    Indocyanine Green Angiography including venipuncture

    Ocular Biometry and Ultrasonography, Ascan- biometry, Diagnostic-A, Bscan and UBM

    Visual Fields: Humphrey VF

    • Work collaboratively with clinical staff to reduce physician and patient wait times
    • Record images and notes in electronic medical record system
    • Perform venipunctures as needed for angiograms and Photodynamic Therapy
    • Respond to physician and peer questions about images, offering technical insight
    • In relationship to diagnostic testing service, employee will assist with the following:

    Triage/ Work up technician

    Expeditor- rooming and preparing patients for the physician

    Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) prep including venipuncture

    Assist with in-office procedures, obtaining consent, set up and numbing

    Obtain and maintain certification for institute wide and international clinical trials

    • Performs clinical-clerical office duties to include checking diagnostic schedules, data entry, checking request forms in advance, printing results and related administrative activities deemed necessary by the department
    • Clean and stock rooms according to practice needs and adhere to office policies in regards to locked items, sharps, checking medication for expired dates and opened dates

    Required Skills/Abilities

    • Demonstrated effectiveness showing courtesy, diligence, integrity, and teamwork

    • Strong interpersonal skills to include effective listening, clear communication, effective customer problem resolution, warm demeanor

    • Ability to master multiple computer systems for data entry and data retrieval

    • Ability to master ophthalmology and retina terminology

    • Ability to travel to locations throughout Central Texas by car

    • Ability and willingness to safely perform venipunctures

    • Valid Texas driver's license with satisfactory driving record to drive company vehicle

    • Strong attention to detail and follow through

    • Demonstrates commitment toward continuous learning and applied knowledge of medical terminology with emphasis on ophthalmic anatomy and physiology

    • Ophthalmic equipment maintenance and simple repairs

    Preferred Attributes

    • 4 year college education, including related optometry, ophthalmology and/or technical training with certification by the Ophthalmic Photographers Society, Joint Commission of Allied Health in Personnel Ophthalmology, or other nationally recognized professional certifying body; or a 2 year college education in an appropriate science and 2 years of closely related laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA), Optical Coherence Tomography – Certified (OCT-C), Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or ability to obtain within 2 years of hire
    • Retina or ophthalmology experience is preferred with special consideration for an individual with experience performing OCTs, fundus photography, A/B scans (ultrasonography), and/ or phlebotomy
    • Previous experience is preferred, some training will be provided to qualified candidates

    Position Details

    • Flexibility to work extended/irregular hours based on department needs to include occasional overtime. Schedule will vary, rare weekend days, and starting time as early as 5:00 a.m.

    • Travel within 120 miles is required in company-provided transportation, day trips only)

    • Hourly pay, FLSA non-exempt, eligible for overtime

    Physical Demands and Requirements

    Prolonged standing and walking, some sitting, talking and hearing both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 40 pounds on occasion. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes viewing multiple computer screens, close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Viewing images and operating computer devices constantly.
