Definition of Service: Outpatient Therapy provides clinical mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults with identified mental health or substance abuse diagnosis. This service is designed to meet the specific mental health needs of the identified client as they relate to their diagnosis and can be provided in-office or other approved/appropriate settings. Outpatient therapy includes psycho- educational activities/interventions designed to assist the client in the reduction of dysfunction. Services are provided with client-centered and family-centered approaches and are delivered through intensive, time-limited, goal specific interventions.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree from an accredited university in a clinical mental health discipline, such as: Psychology, Counseling, Clinical Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, and Marriage and Family therapy, for example. The Master’s Degree must include clinical coursework in the foundations of behavioral health and the provision of mental health services (i.e., individual, group and family therapy, abnormal psychology, psychopathology, cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic therapy, crisis counseling, assessment, child development, personality theory, psychotherapy lab, clinical practicum). Other courses may count as determined by a review of the transcript/syllabi. Must be a Licensed of Licensed Eligible (LMHP-R); Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Virginia. At least two (2) years verified experience in the mental health field. A valid Child Abuse, Criminal History, and FBI clearances. Participation in and completion of all UMHS mandatory in-services.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Collaborate with any other treatment providers and function as a liaison to placement agencies, Wrap-Around services, schools, and foster homes to assure an integrated approach to treatment is developed on behalf of the agency. Responsible for maintenance of clinical records including progress notes and other documentation in accordance with accreditation and licensing standards, managed care expectations, and agency policy and procedures. Provide appropriate individual and family counseling services to assigned caseload on a daily basis. Completes all clinical documentation (Assessments, progress notes, Treatment Plans, etc. per company policy. Apply patient documentation and record keeping guidelines set by the state, managed care and agency policies. Therapists must be able to identify problems, secure relevant data to identify possible causes, generate alternative courses of action, possible consequences, reach conclusions and solutions based on thorough analysis and reasoning. Therapists must demonstrate abilities to set goals, assign priorities, anticipate problems, establish limits, achieve results and complete multiple tasks within a timeline. Provides quality individual, couples, family and/or group therapy, which are focused on the patient's identified diagnosis and needs. Provides crisis intervention to new and current patients as needed. Provides clinical/therapeutic services to a diverse client population. Accepts and treats all patients as identified or assigned willingly and with professionalism. Applies brief therapeutic intervention models as appropriate. Conducts comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, formulates and monitors individualized treatment plans and treatment interventions which are in accordance with the departments Provision of Care and the agency's policies. Provides case management and utilization review services for patients in his/her assigned caseload. Provides education to patients and family as needed. Makes appropriate referrals to services within the agency or outside if needed. Serves as a liaison with these referral sources in coordination with other staff to ensure continuity of care in discharge planning. Actively participates in clinical supervision and peer review activities. Provides consultation with other professionals, including ongoing clinical team treatment staffing. Provides community education and outreach, including referral development and marketing efforts to generate new business. Willingly accepts this as a necessary part of their job above and beyond caseload requirements. Must be able to maintain a minimum weekly caseload of (10) clients per week for part time position; (30) clients per week for full time (to include children, adolescents, and adults). Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a Master’s degree in a Clinical Mental Health Counseling field (e.g.: Social Work, Psychology, Counseling) Minimum requirements: Resident in Counseling, Supervisee in Social Work Licensed preferred. (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LSATP)
