    OVERVIEW:

SILTT is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Outside Plant Specialist to join our Owner’s Representative and Construction Management (OR/CM) Team. The ideal candidate will bring over 10 years of experience in the telecommunications industry and have a wide span of experiences with outside plant (OSP) communication systems across the project spectrum - design, planning, execution, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance in various environments. As an Outside Plant Specialist, you’ll provide key subject matter expertise to our staff and customers on all industry standards and best practices related to outside plant infrastructure and construction. If you’re a skilled professional ready to leverage your field expertise to make a significant impact, we encourage you to apply today!

    A DAY IN THE LIFE:

In this role, you will focus on providing expert construction guidance and technical support for the deployment of outside plant infrastructure, specifically fiber optic cabling systems, across a portfolio of Owner's Representative and Construction Manager projects. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Assist in the oversight of construction activities involving OSP infrastructure, including fiber optic cabling systems, conduit installations, and aerial and underground network deployment.

Provide technical guidance during the construction and O&M phases, ensuring adherence to project plans, specifications, and industry standards.

Inspect work sites to monitor progress, verify quality standards, and address construction challenges, such as site conditions, right-of-way issues, and utility coordination.

Collaborate with SILTT project teams to audit construction schedules, budgets, and resource plans, with a strong emphasis on meeting the customer’s project milestones and cost objectives.

Consult on OSP construction methods, including trenching, boring, duct and conduit placement, splicing, and installation of splice enclosures, handholes, and vaults.

Review and provide feedback on construction drawings, permit applications, and as-built documentation for accuracy and compliance.

Provide input on construction materials, equipment selection, and best practices to ensure optimal performance and cost efficiency.

Participate in construction progress meetings, providing insight into reports on milestones, issues, and recommendations for corrective action when needed.

Conduct post-construction inspections, including fiber optic testing (e.g., OTDR, power loss) to ensure quality and performance criteria are met.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Telecommunications, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

Extensive hands-on experience in construction and deployment of outside plant systems, with a strong emphasis on fiber optic cabling projects.

Knowledge of construction techniques, including trenching, directional boring, conduit installation, and aerial fiber deployment.

Familiarity with permitting processes, utility coordination, and compliance with local regulations and codes (e.g., TIA/EIA, ANSI).

Strong understanding of construction safety standards and practices, with a proven ability to enforce safety measures on-site.

Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to address unforeseen challenges during construction.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.

Availability to travel frequently to project sites.

    SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

Professional certifications such as FOA CFOT, BICSI OSP, or PMP are highly desired.

Experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects as part of an Owner's Representative or Construction Management team.

Proficiency in construction management software such as Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, or Procore to support project planning and oversight.

Flexible work from home options available.
