Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate ICU–Veterinary Patient Care Technician to join the team at our private brand-new state-of-the-art building. We are excited to build an ICU/ ER nursing team comprised of technicians who enjoy caring for ill patients, pay close attention to detail, and would like to advance their critical care nursing skills under amazing doctors (Daytime ER Veterinarian and Criticalist).
Shifts
(Mon – Thurs) = Noon – 8 pm
(Mon – Thurs) = 6 pm - 2 am
(Mon – Thurs) = 12 am - 8 am
*(Training will be set up during daytime hours prior to shift assignment)

Responsibilities
Triage pets as they arrive at the clinic.
Interview pet owners to obtain a patient history.
Take vital signs and acquire blood samples.
Administer medications and provide ICU care.
Provide discharge instructions for clients.
Keep accurate anesthesia and patient records.
Both the ICU doctors and ICU nurses work closely as a team to provide the best care to our patients and recognize the decompensation of patients as soon as possible.
*Below is a list of ICU-specific skills and procedures that each nurse can achieve. These skills are not required to apply for our ICU nursing position but will be taught over time in your phase training.
· CPR
· Urinary catheter placement (male and female)
· Single and double-lumen PICC lines
· Arterial catheter placement
· Care of an arterial catheter
· Thoracic auscultation
· Central line placement
· Perfusion analysis of patients
· Electrolyte and blood gas analysis
· Nursing care of patients on a mechanical ventilator
· Nursing care of patients with tracheostomies
· Nursing care of patients with chest tubes and abdominal drains
· Nursing care of patients with feeding tubes and administering nutrition through a feeding tube
· Calculating CRIs (analgesics, inotropes, vasopressors, electrolytes, etc)
Qualifications
Previous experience as a Veterinary Technician (minimum 3 years)
Knowledge of animal care and handling
Possess a passion for teamwork and a willingness to learn
Exemplify principles of Quality, Integrity, and Compassion
Excellent communication skills
Ability to multi-task and remain organized in a busy environment
Patience and a love for animals
