Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Overnight Pharmacist - Brooklyn.
In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for safely preparing compounding and dispensing medications to patients in accordance with the laws and regulations governing pharmacists and the practice of pharmacy by the NYS Board of Pharmacy and Lutheran Medical Center pharmacys policy and procedure Responsible for the optimization of drug therapy by identification resolution and prevention of drug related problems and improving therapeutic outcomes Work independently within the limits of established pharmacy policies and procedures as a member of the inpatient care team Directs and coordinates the activities of a pharmacy service area Supervise all staff and support personnel assigned operating within the limits of pharmacy policy and procedures and the regulations of the NYS Board of Pharmacy Assignment will include covering satellite pharmacy preparing IV products distributing controlled substances providing drug information All pharmacists will be knowledgeable on the safe management and handling of hazardous medications stored and dispensed
Job Responsibilities:
- Pharmacoeconomic: Responsible for ensuring that medication therapies are cost effective and safe
- Narcotic management Responsible for distributing and maintaining controlled substances to all Automated Dispensing Cabinets ADCs at Lutheran Medical Center Duties may include but not limited to the followings Restocking of controlled substances Destocking of expired/recall controlled substances Assigning/Unassigning/Removing/Returning controlled items in the ADC Receiving controlled substances into the cage Responsible maintaining inventory control safety and security of controlled substances at all times Responsible for proper record keeping and proper maintenance of appropriate records of all narcotic transactions Responsible for ensuring proper narcotic inventory control and informing pharmacy director of controlled substances to be ordered Responsible for dispensing and verifying of compounded narcotic IV products and proper inventory control of compounded narcotic IV products Responsible for reporting discrepancies discovered to pharmacy manager immediately Responsible for overall aspects of security and control of narcotic cage Responsible for ad hoc restock and supply of controlled substances Responsible for conducting narcotic inventory as required and to report any discrepancies to manager in a timely manner Responsible for assigning patient s own controlled substance s bins in the Automated Dispensing Cabinet Responsible for collecting and management of narcotic returns via External Return Bins ERBs Responsible checking and removal of expired/near expired narcotics from all ADCs Responsible for preparing ambulance boxes
- Clinical Support: Responsible for completing assignments under the direction of the clinical pharmacist or clinical staff Attend and participate in daily medical and multi disciplinary rounds as required Attend and participate in daily patient discharge counseling and patient education as required Participate in the training of medical nursing and allied health professionals
- Order Checking Verification: Responsible for coverage in the main pharmacy or satellite pharmacy for routine staffing as part of a rotation or other coverage break coverage Responsible for verification of Adult and Pediatric/Neonatal Total Parenteral Nutrition TPN orders Responsible for checking emergency trays emergency carts ambulance boxes etc
- Work in the sterile products area ensuring the accuracy and sterility of all compounded products based on USP 797 regulations Responsible for preparation and the verification of Adult IV orders Responsible for preparation and the verification of all Neonatal and Pediatric IV orders Responsible for ensuring the safest environment possible Responsible for compliance with USP 797 regulations temperature humidity room pressure differential aseptic techniques etc Responsible for supervising and monitoring IV technicians Responsible for supervising and informing pharmacy manager of sanitation and maintenance issues of the IV clean room area Responsible for double checking all IV and chemo orders
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical psychosocial education safety and age related criteria pertinent to the patients served in his/her assigned area that may include but not limited to pharmacokinetic evaluation and monitoring patient s chart review antibiotic monitoring automatic renal dose adjustments IV PO switches warfarin consultations and therapeutic interchange Responsible for the interpretation and implementation of all departmental policies and procedures on the assigned shift Responsible for complete and accurately interpreting physician orders for completeness and appropriateness Responsible for filling medication cassettes Responsible for monitoring patient drug therapy including drug drug drug food drug herbal and drug pregnancy/lactation interactions Responsible for documenting and reporting all clinical interventions and adverse drug events Responsible for ensuring that all step down medication therapies have been appropriately assessed for conversion Responsible for communicating any therapeutic or toxicity concerns to the prescriber immediately Utilize all available resources to reach clinically sound decisions Initiates action to solve problems and assumes responsibility Supervise all staff and support personnel assigned operating within the limits of pharmacy policy and procedures and regulations of NYS Board of Pharmacy Supervise and verify the accuracy of all work completed by supportive personnel assigned to the area Responsible for submitting on time assigned monthly inspection reports and equipment maintenance logs as needed Formulate and compound special dosage forms not commercially available Attend participate in and conduct continuing education programs and conferences to keep current with developments in the profession and to maintain license Maintain skill and competency level to comply with departmental and hospital Quality Assurance standards Participate in department quality improvement efforts Assist with the training of clinical pharmacy externship/internship students Provides staff coverage when needed in areas of the department that the individual has been appropriately trained in Perform all other responsibilities as assigned

- Responsible for compliance with HIPAA OSHA Joint Commission LMC policies and procedures LMC standard operating procedures Fit Testing Annual PPD assessment maintaining current pharmacy credentials and licensure mandatory education requirements Responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards of practice Responsible for ensuring proper maintenance of appropriate records for investigational drugs as required Provide drug information services as required. Participate in pharmacy quality control and performance improvement activities. Monitor workflow processes and initiate change when necessary. Provide staff coverage when needed in areas of the department that the individual has been appropriately trained in
- Distributive: Responsible for ensuring filling of medication orders so that scheduled medications are administered to patiently on a timely manner Responsible for overall aspects of department security and control Responsible for ensuring short supply medications are communicated to management Responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards of practice
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy or Doctorate of Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy or equivalence.
- Must be licensed to practice in NY and license in good standing.
- Board Certification in relevant area highly desirable.
- Upon department orientation and annually thereafter must complete:
- Safety training OSHA/Fire safety Infection control Safe handling of chemotherapeutic agents
- Competency assessments in areas of Population specific pharmacotherapy.
- Aseptic technique
- Anti infective Anti coagulation therapy
- Active and current NY pharmacy license.
Required Licenses: Pharmacist License-NYS

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $139,276.07 - $160,602.88 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
