By conducting diagnostic assessments, leading therapy sessions, and collaborating closely with the treatment team, this role ensures that mental health care is integrated with the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria for substance use disorder treatment. This position plays a key role in bridging mental health services with addiction recovery, facilitating a holistic and client-centered approach.

    Key Responsibilities

    ● Conduct diagnostic assessments, incorporating ASAM criteria to identify co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the client's needs.

    ● Utilize ASAM criteria in collaboration with the treatment team to develop integrated treatment plans that address both mental health and substance use disorders, enhancing the effectiveness of the recovery process.

    ● Lead individual and group therapy sessions, applying evidence-based mental health interventions that are informed by and complementary to ASAM standards for addiction treatment.

    ● Provide expert consultation and support to Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors (LADCs) and other team members, promoting an interdisciplinary approach that aligns with ASAM guidelines for treating co-occurring disorders.

    ● Participate in crisis management efforts, employing strategies that adhere to ASAM principles for urgent care and stabilization, ensuring that clients receive timely and appropriate interventions.

    ● Engage in professional development to stay current with the latest ASAM updates and recommendations for integrating mental health care in addiction treatment settings.

    Required Qualifications

    ● Valid license as a Mental Health Professional (e.g., Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Licensed Psychologist, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) with the relevant governing board.

    ● Profound knowledge of and at least two years of experience applying ASAM criteria in a clinical setting, with a strong preference for professionals experienced in substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health treatment.

    ● Demonstrated ability to integrate mental health services within the context of comprehensive addiction treatment plans, informed by ASAM standards.

    ● Competence in crisis intervention, with the ability to apply ASAM principles in emergency situations.

    Preferred Skills

    ● Exceptional skills in interdisciplinary collaboration, capable of uniting mental health and addiction treatment practices under the ASAM framework.

    ● Strong communication and empathy skills, essential for effective client engagement and support through the recovery process.

    ● A commitment to evidence-based practice, with a continuous focus on professional development in the evolving fields of mental health and addiction medicine.
