    • JOB SUMMARY: The person who occupies this position is responsible for shipping, receiving coordinating traffic, warehousing inventories, communications and producing product and any other items as they relate to shipping out of or being received into the plant and warehouse locations.

     

    JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

    • A shipping material handler will spend approximately 70% of working shift on a forklift and 30% doing other shipping duties.
    • Responsible for reviewing and preparing all shipments according to the shipment calendar.
    • Work with incoming and outbound trucking companies on scheduled pick-ups and deliveries.
    • Loading and unloading of shipments as per the bills of lading.
    • Proper storage and warehousing of materials according to warehouse layout.
    • Delivery of incoming materials to required departments. Review of documentation for accuracy prior to all shipments leaving the building. Assist Warehouse Lead with any required procedures. Examines own work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
    • Maintains a clean and safe warehousing environment.
    • Communicates company safety and procedures to all visitors received in the warehouse including truck delivers and contractors. Reports all food safety and quality problems to the Quality Team.
    • Record shipping data such as damages, rejected trailers, discrepancies for reporting, accounting and recordkeeping purposes.
    • Determine shipping methods and procedures for safe shipment based on the material using shipping knowledge and procedures.
    • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers and Subordinates to insure all issues are communicated properly.
    • Store, maintain and monitor shipping materials and supplies used for shipping.
    • Compute weights and pallet amounts to insure trailers are loaded properly and not detained over the road.
    • Load product on shipments and shuttles to insure scheduled load times are being met by our facility and the warehouse along with scheduled delivery time of product.
    • Process customer returns and validate all incoming product.
    • Use, know and understand all computer programs and technical skills used at the facility in the shipping and inventory function.
    • Pull PO from file, sign and verify physical delivery of goods.
    • Pull packing slip from goods and validate receipt.
    • Audit packing slip against PO to determine if delivery received is complete
    • Receive goods workflows and review PO’s that require revising.
    • Unpack deliveries; verify product received against PO item and quantity. Receive items. Pull PO (or reprint) and assemble w/packing slip for GR for 3-way filing.
    • Process chemical deliveries consist with established protocol.
    • Act as the backup for all plant subcontracting.
    • Backfill material handler/Sheeter Helpers position (breaks, lunches, vacations etc.)
    • May be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

     

     

    BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:

    Manufacturing experience preferred

    Must have physical coordination to operate forklift.

    Use of Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software:

    • Forklifts
    • Radio and Communication devices
    • Bar code reader
    • E-Mail communications.
    • Phone-Two way communications
    • Fax

    Know, understand and pass all needed skill level matrix

    Know and understand application in regards to inventory, production and shipments.

    Know and understand all shipping protocol and procedures.

    Must have reasoning ability to identify alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

     

    EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

    • English speaking, reading and writing skills and comprehension- This is needed to insure proper shipping, receiving and computer programs are used to insure proper and legal documentation and processes are followed. This will include the need to be able to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents and programs. It includes conveying information to the needed parties and writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

    • The knowledge and understanding of meeting both internal and external customer needs. Servicing the customers and vendors in a professional manner while supplying prompt delivery and receiving of products to and from the facility.

     

     

     

    SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Schedules are up to 8 or 12-hour shifts on alternate days with rotating weekends off.  However, employees must have the ability to work alternate schedules and overtime that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
    • Must be willing and able to work overtime.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Position is associated with walking, lifting, carrying and sitting.

    • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.

    • Must be able to lift 75 lbs.

    • Push/pull pallet jack regularly

    • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.

    • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature.
