    Job Title: PLC Programmer

    Employment Status: Full-Time

    Classification: Exempt

    Work Schedule: Monday to Friday with occasional weekends

    Reports to: Director of Manufacturing

    Supervisory Responsibilities: None

    Pay: $75,000 to $90,000

    Position Summary: The primary responsibilities of this position are to create design schematics and write and install Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs for automation and industrial equipment. Responsibilities also include testing the efficiency of the installed program, improving the performance of programs, and troubleshooting any issues that may arise with installed programs. Knowledge of Factory Talk software is required.

    Essential Functions:

    • Utilizes automation software to write PLC programs for automation and industrial equipment to ensure they function properly.

    • Responds to the needs and questions of machine users concerning their accesses and use of PLC applications, issues, and training needs.

    • Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs all aspects of motors, drives, and control systems to minimize the impact on operations. Uses ladder logic and troubleshoots any issues when necessary.

    • Performs routine maintenance on installed programs to ensure plant equipment's operations and efficiency. Works as system integrator, programs all machines in a manufacturing cell or line to interface with other control systems.

    • Develop and execute training programs for equipment for other technical users.

    Other Duties

    • Work with engineering, maintenance, and production staff to outline programming standards and requirements.

    • Performs other PLC Programmer duties as assigned.

    Experience and Education Requirements

    • Associates in Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Technology or equivalent experience required.

    • Knowledge of software design principles and database implementation and maintenance required.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's) Required

    • Functional knowledge of manufacturing process equipment is required.

    • Knowledge of general production processes.

    • Knowledge of tools, instrumentation, and test equipment.

    • Working knowledge of industrial, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic control systems.

    • Strong knowledge of Programmable Logic Control (PLC) and Variable Frequency Drives (VFD).

    • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and chemical safety hazards.

    • Working knowledge in electrical panels and electrical troubleshooting.

    • Knowledgeable in robot motion control and servo motion controls systems.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, conflict resolution, and people skills.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.

    • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

    • Advanced mechanical skills including electrical, pumps, plumbing, and general equipment repair.

    • Advanced electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.

    • Ability to self-motivate and work without direct supervision.

    • Ability to multi-task and work in an organized manner.

    • Ability to follow standard wiring and labeling practices.

    • Ability to understand control schematics.

    • Ability to understand and read wiring diagrams.

    • Ability to use Microsoft Office, other computer programs, and technology.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk on normal and

    uneven surfaces and sit; use hands for writing and keyboarding; lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

    The employee is occasionally required to lift, carry, and push over 100 pounds in a team; stand, stoop, and bend; hand grip up to 20 pounds; and pinch up to 15 pounds. The employee is required to use a ladder to reach high areas for performing work. The employee may occasionally encounter uneven and/or slippery surfaces when in warehouse.

    Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    Acute hearing is necessary for telephone and in-person communication with customers and fellow employees, and visual acuity sufficient to read a computer screen and paper documents.

    Working Conditions

    This position typically functions in a plant environment; hot and cold conditions may exist depending on external weather conditions. There may be exposure to wet/high humidity conditions during product testing. There may also be exposure to dust from die cutting/material handling and plastic fumes from injection molding operations. There is minimal exposure to production chemicals.
