The role of a PLUS Resource Specialist is to work with parents of children aged newborn through ten years old, typically in their home setting. The aim is to provide services and reinforce positive, healthy, and safe parenting skills. This position helps provide connection to community resources while supporting and reinforcing skills introduced by the Parenting Educator. This position may also include providing supervision for visits between parents and children. The Parenting Education program uses a specially designed, evidence-based parenting program designed for adults with learning difficulties. This program is currently operating in Armstrong and Westmoreland Counties, Pennsylvania. It provides a specialized version of parenting classes to assist adults who may not be able to complete typical parenting classes. Such families may be involved in the child welfare system. The PLUS Resource Specialist job requires one to work with the parents in the parents' homes, in the Sunrise Step By Step Office, and/or where supervised visits have been scheduled. Our agency trains the PLUS Resource Specialist on the implementation of the program starting with working with a mentor and utilizing the shadowing, co-leading, leading, until being assigned a case to work on independently. The pay associated with this position is $25 for any direct service to the client (face to face, telephone calls, and email/text with client and collateral). Indirect time is paid at $10 per hour (telephone/text/email with case supervisors, interagency, paperwork, and travel time between clients). The employee can choose to claim mileage on their own taxes or receive mileage reimbursement, from the contracting agency, for mileage to and from direct client services for that agency. The contracted agencies reimbursement at the IRS maximum rate of $0.67 per mile. This position is casual, meaning that there is not a promise of a minimum of hours. Cases are assigned as they are contracted. Supervisors strive to place PLUS Resource Specialist with clients while keeping in mind the times available, personality traits, employee strengths, and proximity. This is a growing division with the potential to grow to part-time and full-time employment in the future.
