Knowledge of and/or experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP) would be a plus
PYP Support Teacher Job Summary:
The support teacher position provides a unique opportunity for talented individuals with limited or no lead teaching experience to explore the field of a faith-based, International Baccalaureate (IB) education. Support Teachers will have an opportunity to observe best practices in classroom instruction from experienced teachers. Support teachers provide reinforcement of skills through small group and one to one planning and instruction. Essential Job Functions:
Become familiar with Daystar’s curriculum and the International Baccalaureate Framework
Collaborate with Lead Teachers grading, and individual and/or small group student instruction during the school day
Plan and implement small group lessons for students as guided by cooperating lead teacher
Collaborate with cooperating lead teachers regarding the development and reflection of IB Unit Planners
Provide in-house substitute teaching coverage for Lead Teachers
Remain informed and reflective about educational issues and best practices
Maintain confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees
Partner with cooperating lead teachers when it comes to feedback regarding academic development and social/emotional development, especially during Parent/Teacher Conferences.
He/she may suggest classroom activities but their implementation is subject to the cooperating teacher’s approval
Ensure the safety of all students at all times
Assist the classroom teacher in setting up and maintaining a creative, orderly, clean and favorable learning environment
Demonstrate and insist on respectful use of all materials and the class environment
Assist Lead Teacher with administrative and classroom maintenance tasks
Support the Responsive Classroom management philosophy and practice
Model positive and respectful interactions with students and all members of the Daystar community at all times
Communicate to the Lead Teacher any observations or conversations regarding students with academic, social or behavior concerns
Responsible for arrival and dismissal, of students
Greeting students and making sure they are entering the building
Making sure car line continues forward so that students are continuously being dropped off
Be available for either Preschool arrival or K-8th arrival
Be available for either Preschool dismissal or K-8th dismissal
Responsible for Lunch and Recess Duty
Supervise students in the cafeteria during lunch services, monitoring noise level and student behavior, and ensuring a safe and inclusive environment
Communicate concerns to homeroom teacher
Supervise child(ren) in the hallway, lunchroom, and playground
Reinforce directions and procedures as stated by the Lead Teacher
Support students in the development of their social emotional awareness during free play time assisting students with conflict resolution
Attend and participate professionally in the scheduled staff meetings.
Attend and participate professionally in in-service sessions, IB Training and other staff meetings as requested by the Lead Teacher or Director of Lower School
Support professional collaboration with teachers and staff members including support staff to ensure consistency and continuity in classroom programs
Collaborate with teachers and staff through problem-solving, flexibility, communication and encouragement
Build a sense of trust in the school by fostering a respectful, cordial, and professional relationship with parents
Share information received from a parent that is relevant to a child with their cooperating lead teacher
Defer parent questions and concerns to Lead Teacher
Seek administrative approval and support for professional learning opportunities that are of interest to the program
