JOB DESCRIPTION: Kitchen Assistant
The Kitchen Assistant plays a vital support role for the Chef/Instructor and students/guests during cooking classes and private events. We are seeking strong, experienced candidates who can also take on Shift Lead responsibilities when needed. This is a part-time position
Key Responsibilities
Kitchen Assistant Role - This position requires strong attention to detail, a proactive approach, and a passion for creating a seamless culinary experience for both instructors and guests. Responsibilities include:
Ensure all ingredients are prepped and the kitchen is set up with necessary equipment before each class or event.
Work closely with the Chef Instructor, anticipating their needs and assisting students/guests throughout the experience.
Welcome students and private event guests, helping them feel comfortable and prepared for their cooking or baking session.
Kitchen Maintenance & Cleanliness:
Assist with dishwashing and general cleaning during and after classes/events.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in coordination with the Chef and Dishwasher.
Remove used dishes, glassware, cookware, and utensils as needed.
Follow safety protocols, help with storage organization, and assist with additional kitchen projects as assigned.
Support general kitchen operations and take on tasks as directed.
Shift Lead Role The Shift Lead is an additional role assigned to an employee to oversee general class operations and ensure all classes and events run smoothly. This role involves making real-time decisions and adjustments as needed to maintain efficiency.
Staff Coordination: Work with Assistant Manager to ensure adequate staff coverage and manage break schedules.
Side Work Management: Check the daily Side Work list, assign tasks as needed, and coordinate additional staff needs through Assistant Manager
Issue Resolution: Address and handle any employee or student concerns that arise.
Class Preparation: Review class packets for accuracy, verifying recipes, information sheets, and Class Wrap Checklists are correct and printed and that all necessary ingredients are present.
Kitchen Maintenance: Oversee cleanliness and organization of kitchens and back of house
Deliveries & Supplies: Accept and organize deliveries as applicable.
Equipment Oversight: Report any broken equipment and notify the Management Team for repairs.
Stock Monitoring: Check and replenish essential supplies, such as paper goods, hand soap, and general kitchen items.
End-of-Shift Review: Go over Class Wrap Sheets to confirm all tasks have been completed.
Qualifications & Competencies
Previous experience as a kitchen assistant in a commercial kitchen is required; kitchen management experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for 5 hours and frequently lift/move objects from to 10 to 35 lbs.
Strong familiarity with kitchen operations, equipment, and food/produce basics.
Work Ethic: High energy, strong work ethic, and the ability to move efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Attitude & Mindset: Positive, professional demeanor. Customer-focused with a strong commitment to guest experience. Team-oriented with a collaborative approach.
Skills:
Exceptional attention to detail and thoroughness.
Strong time management and organizational skills.
This position will require some flexibility - schedule and shifts will be assigned on an as-needed basis and in coordination with your availability. Shifts are scheduled daytime and evening seven days a week.
Compensation/Benefits
