Summary
Position responsible for performing all horse care and farm work as needed. Assist with Easterseals Ranch equine-assisted therapy. Equine Barn staff will ensure and maintain safety standards set forth by PATH International.
Qualifications
s Education: High School diploma required
s Experience: Some horse or farm experience preferred, but willing to train up the right candidate.
Position Requirements
s Experience with day-to-day operations of a working 20 to 30-horse barn.
s Basic knowledge of horse handling, i.e., leading, grooming, and tacking.
s Above-average knowledge of equine behavior.
s Good communication skills.
s Reliable and punctual
s Must be able to lift 50 pounds
s Must be self-motivated
s Must be able to work outside in less-than-ideal weather conditions
s Must be willing to work full day Saturday and Sunday – 8 am – 5pm
Responsibilities
s Bring in and turn out horses.
s Clean 5-10 stalls daily.
s Maintain cleanliness of barn.
s Perform daily treatments on horses as directed by your supervisor
s Assist supervising barn volunteers
s Work horses in hand as assigned by supervisor.
s Report equine injuries, changes in behavior or feed consumption to supervisor.
s Assist with programs as assigned: leading, tacking, grooming.
s Feed grain and hay daily.
s Changing, cleaning and filling water buckets/troughs daily.
s Assist with programs as assigned, tacking, grooming.
s Comply with Easter Seals policies and procedures utilizing the highest standards of personal and professional ethics and behavior.
s Demonstrate good judgment, diplomacy, courtesy. and effective communication while working at Easter Seals or when representing the organization.
s Other duties as assigned
Administrative Duties:
s Inventory (feed, hay, supplies, equipment, meds.)
s Attend staff meetings and training
s Report to immediate supervisor on all barn and equine matters
s Correspond and liaise with coordinators of individual programs regarding program matters.
