POSITION OVERVIEW
The KIPP Forward program at KIPP Indy provides rigorous support and guidance to ensure that all current students and alumni have the knowledge and skills necessary to develop the knowledge, skills, and character strengths they need to succeed throughout their education and in the competitive world beyond. The Postsecondary Match Counselor is responsible for ensuring that every graduate earns admission into a best-fit college or university or Career and Technical Education (CTE) program and commits to matriculating to their best-fit following high school graduation. The Counselor provides close guidance in college and career-aspiration research, as well as the application, financial, and decision processes. This position will report to the Director of College and Career Counseling (DCCC).
College and Career Advising and Placement
Directly support juniors and seniors at KIPP Indy Legacy High to identify a positive post secondary path and create a plan to ensure each student matriculates to chosen path with an emphasis on multilingual learners
Directly support the college application process for seniors, including managing letters of recommendation and transcripts, while ensuring that seniors are applying to a wide range of competitive schools related to their academic profile
Assist families of seniors to submit the FAFSA by designated internal deadlines as set by the KIPP Foundation Match Counselor Framework and in accordance to Indiana graduation requirements.
Keep students and families informed of deadlines and resources to support them with the completion of key application, financial aid, and scholarship processes
Create access to college and career resources and opportunities available to support historically underrepresented populations (including, but not limited to undocumented students, students with diverse learning needs, etc.)
Collaborate to design an effective program for seniors who are not eligible for a bachelor's enrollment directly after high school so that all students have an education pathway towards equitable achievement of KIPP’s Mission
Data/Caseload Management
Directly support juniors and seniors at KIPP Indy Legacy High to identify a positive postsecondary path and create a plan to ensure each student matriculates to chosen path with an emphasis on multilingual learners
Progress-monitor and support with data entry for all KIPP Forward college access goals including, college application completion and submission, FAFSA completion, and student and family one-on-ones, and career integration support
Participate in training for and fully utilize the resources of Overgrad, KIPP’s college application management system, to facilitate the institutional search and application processes, as well as to manage student data
Participate in bi-monthly Match counseling strategy meetings
Team Collaboration and General Responsibilities
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required
College and career counseling experience preferred
Bilingual preferred (Spanish)
Experience working with students from under-resourced communities
Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP Indy’s mission and community, and commitment to the belief that outstanding School Leaders, staff, and teachers can achieve excellent outcomes with all students
Ability to multi-task and effectively manage concurrent projects under tight deadlines
