About the role
The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive band program for students in grades 5 through 8. This role involves teaching music theory, instrumental techniques, and performance skills while fostering a love for music and encouraging teamwork among students.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a dynamic and engaging band curriculum for students in grades 5-8.
Teach instrumental music, including woodwinds, brass, percussion, and other band instruments, tailored to the developmental levels of middle school students.
Conduct regular band rehearsals and prepare students for performances, including school concerts, community events, and competitions.
Provide individual and group instruction to help students improve their musical skills and technique.
Introduce students to a variety of musical genres and styles, fostering an appreciation for different types of music.
Assess and monitor students’ progress, providing feedback and support to help them improve their musical abilities.
Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and a love for music.
Maintain and manage band equipment and instruments, ensuring they are in good condition and available for use.
Collaborate with other music and arts teachers to coordinate performances and integrate music education with other subjects and school events.
Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding students’ progress and any concerns related to music education.
Employment Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.
Previous experience teaching band or instrumental music to middle school students is highly desirable.
Proficiency in a variety of band instruments and strong knowledge of music theory and performance techniques.
Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to motivate and engage students.
Strong organizational and planning skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive school culture.
Experience with conducting and arranging music is a plus.
Work Schedule and Location
This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule to be determined based on the needs of the school and the availability of the candidate. The position requires availability during regular school hours and occasional after-school events, rehearsals, or performances.
Compensation
Compensation: $40-$45/hour depending on experience
