We are headquartered in the Historic Home of Robert Sellwood (est. 1907) in the heart of the Sellwood neighborhood and have offices in North Portland and westside in Beaverton near Washington Square. SMC has been providing exceptional compassionate care for over twenty-one years. We promote work/life balance and seeking to add a full-time Triage Nurse to our exceptional and compassionate clinical team.

    Full time Day Shift. We can be flexible for the right candidate! This in-clinic position consists of 5 days in clinic with the possibility for future hybrid remote triage based on business need.

    Clinic hours: Weekdays: 7:45am - 5:30pm Saturdays: 8:45am to 3pm. Please submit your resume with cover letter to HRManager@sellwoodmd.com if you meet the criteria below. In your cover letter, please indicate desired hourly rate of pay.

    Essential Functions Include but not limited to:

    Conduct professional and courteous telephone triage by answering patient/parent calls in real time and gathering relevant data, including symptoms, duration, and modifying factors.

    Consult with physicians and utilize outside resources

    Schedule appointments as appropriate.

    Document all telephone interactions in the electronic medical record (EMR- ATHENA) immediately following the call, ensuring relevant data is recorded and nursing notes are easily accessible to other staff members.

    Utilize protocols to determine the acuity of the patient's condition and provide appropriate disposition, such as referring patients to the emergency room, scheduling clinic appointments, or providing home care instructions.

    Maintain confidentiality of sensitive patient information at all times.

    Maintain exceptional patient relations, responding to inquiries, concerns, and complaints from parents or families.

    Provide backup coverage for staff as needed, scheduling, administering vaccinations, and rendering treatment for pediatric patients.

    Successfully work in a fast-paced environment with effective time management and ability to multitask and prioritize workload.

    Display high standards of office conduct.

    Punctual, regular, timely, and dependable attendance.

    Assist with managed care authorizations and completion of insurance forms as necessary.

    Other duties as assigned by manager.

    Comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.

    Specific Job Skills

    Pediatric care knowledge for advice and triage.

    Excellent professional interpersonal, communication, telephone, customer service, time-management, problem-solving, handwriting, and decision-making skills are essential.

    Ability to be self-motivated and efficient

    Knowledge of community resources for patients with complex medical issues.

    Current clinical knowledge.

    Ability to conduct ongoing interpersonal interactions and analyze and solve problems using nursing education.

    Skill in organizing and reporting accurate and complete information.

    Demonstrate empathy, concern, and reassurance through tone of voice and chosen words during telephone interactions.

    Must be a fast learner, a self-starter, detailed oriented, very organized and friendly!

    Fluent in English.

    Education/ Experience

    Current LPN License in the State of Oregon required

    Degree from an accredited nursing program.

    Minimum of 3 years of experience in a family practice or pediatric clinical setting, preferably giving advice and performing triage.

    Previous experience using Barton Schmitt Pediatric Protocols preferred.

    Current CPR certification required.

    Understanding of clinic workflow required.

    Compassionate, patient and respectful in person and on the phone

    Experience with Electronic Medical Records - Athena preferred

    Proficiency in charting and documentation

    Establish good rapport with people over the telephone and in person

    Capability of effectively working on more than one task without a reduction in the quality of work and service performed

    Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and to work under pressure

    Ability to accept responsibility and use initiative to proceed with necessary tasks without direct supervision

    Pay: $38.00 - $45.00 per hour

    Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
