    Job Summary:

    The Peer Support Specialist provides emotional, social, and practical support to individuals in recovery from mental health, substance use disorders, or other challenges. Using their own lived experiences, the Peer Support Specialist offers guidance, encouragement, and advocacy to help clients navigate their recovery journey and develop coping skills.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Peer Support: Use lived experience to provide empathetic support to individuals in recovery or experiencing mental health challenges.

    Goal Setting: Assist clients in setting and achieving personal recovery goals.

    Education: Educate individuals about recovery processes, community resources, and coping strategies.

    Mentoring & Advocacy: Serve as a role model, advocate for client rights, and assist in navigating healthcare, social services, and support networks.

    Resource Connection: Provide information about available community resources and facilitate access to services (e.g., therapy, housing, employment assistance).

    Documentation: Maintain confidential records of support services provided, track progress, and report outcomes.

    Crisis Support: Provide de-escalation and crisis management support as necessary, including connecting clients to emergency services when needed.

    Collaborate: Work closely with clinical staff, case managers, and other team members to coordinate care and ensure the best outcomes for clients.

    Qualifications:

    Lived experience with mental health or substance use recovery or a related life experience.

    Completion of a Peer Support Specialist training program (certification Required)

    Strong communication and active listening skills.

    Empathy, patience, and understanding for individuals in recovery.

    Ability to maintain boundaries while offering support.

    Basic knowledge of recovery models and community resources.

    Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

    Experience facilitating support groups or workshops (preferred).

    Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

    Physical Requirements:

    Ability to perform physical tasks required by the job (e.g., travel to various locations, attend group activities, etc.).

    Ability to work in a variety of settings, including community-based locations, homes, and healthcare environments.
