THE OUTSIDE MORTGAGE LOAN ORIGINATOR (OLO) IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HELPING MEMBERS PURCHASE HOMES AND SAVE MONEY BY REFINANCING EXISTING MORTGAGES BY EFFECTIVELY BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH MEMBERS, BUILDERS, REAL ESTATE AGENTS AND OTHER OUTSIDE LEAD SOURCES.
- Originates first mortgage loans from members and prospects who become members during loan process. Explains the credit union’s mortgage programs and aids in the selection of mortgage products. Reviews loan conditions with borrowers and assists in collecting required documentation. Ensures proper policies, procedures, risk mitigation activities, and operating controls are followed. Reports gaps in policies, procedures, and operating controls to leadership to ensure member impact and risk is mitigated. (50%)
- Meets with area realtors and builders to provide them with information regarding the credit union’s first mortgage products and programs in order to develop origination volume. (25%)
- Manages personal loan pipeline and communicates loan statuses to borrowers, and related parties such as real estate agents, builders, etc., and follows up appropriately with leads and applications. (20%)
- Identifies opportunities and assists in introducing borrower/member to member center personnel to expand the relationship beyond the first mortgage loan (5%)
Required Skills
THE OUTSIDE MORTGAGE LOAN ORIGINATOR POSSESSES THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of two years previous experience originating first mortgage loans is required.
- Strong ability to build effective relationships with builders, real estate agents and other lead sources.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including ability to share negative information in an effective, yet positive manner.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and utilize the necessary software to complete job functions, especially the Credit Union’s mortgage loan origination and processing systems, along with third party web sites.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and analyze information in order to review credit reports, automated underwriting decisions, property appraisals, title commitments, purchase agreements and other mortgage related documents.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and adhere to federal and state regulations/laws.
- Demonstrated basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- NMLS registration required (within 30 days of employment) to be SAFE Act compliant.
