Job Description
** Position Purpose**
Perfusionists are vital members of the cardiovascular surgical team. A perfusionist assists the team during various types of cardiac surgical procedures.
What you will do:
Under direct supervision of the surgeon and anesthesiologist, the bypass circuit is constructed in accordance to the OR standards of sterile technique. The patient is then placed on bypass.
Clinical perfusion is met according to calculated flows determined by the patient's weight, height, age and cardiac index
Interprets various parameters, blood gas values, electrolyte balance, blood pressure, urinary output, gas and blood flow and fluid shifts. Information passed on to the surgeon and/or anesthesiologist.
Maintains accurate records that are timely and complete.
Assists in the post operative phase
*Participates as a team member in the care of the patient undergoing open heart surgery.
Maintains the bypass circuit to re-initiate safe bypass until authorized by the surgeon.
Maintains a safe and orderly par level.
Checks equipment with preventive maintenance, servicing as required for safe working conditions.
Ensures equipment and supplies are available for emergency situations.
*Provides ventricular assist and long-term support devices as necessary
Assumes on-call responsibilities as necessary
Performs other job-related duties within job scope as requested by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited school of perfusion
High School Diploma Licensure
Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) Required
Cardiac Perfusionist Current license
