Responsibilities: Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Drafting and filing complaints and other pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, proposed orders, deposition notices, notices of hearings, and any other pleading, motion, notice, order or judgment needed for the case • Draft subpoenas and coordinate with process servers • Calendaring and monitoring deadlines • Maintaining client confidentiality • Coordinating and rendering payments to Expert Witnesses • Having thorough knowledge of the FRCP, FRJP, Local Rules, E-filing, electronic discovery, and ESI procedures • Organizing case file materials including exhibits • Supervising and working effectively with the Intake Specialist, Legal Assistant, and Client Coordinator • Working with the Attorney • Making hearing, trial, and exhibit binders • Coordinating with opposing counsel’s office, arranging for court reporters, coordinating with the Attorney, the client, and witnesses regarding depositions and discovery • Preparing Affidavits and other legal documents through all stages of case completion • Assisting in interviewing and screening prospective clients • Following up with clients • Working with intake, the client coordinator/case manager, and the Attorney • Knowing and collecting pertinent information about the client, the factual circumstances, and general knowledge of relevant laws, rules, and procedures that may affect the case • Assisting the Attorney during Initial Client Meetings by staying organized and ensuring all case initiation paperwork is fully completed and signed • Obtaining Crash Reports • Sending out all initial statutory disclosure requests and following up to ensure timely receipt • Knowing the statutory requests and other documents (NPCS, Medicare, Medicaid, etc…) that are a routine and crucial part of thorough personal injury case management • Having professional and effective communication skills • Drafting correspondence • Being able to work with the wide range of clients that present in personal injury cases • Efficiently working with adjusters and communicating with various insurance providers • Having knowledge of the personal injury medical treatment, record retrieval, and billing process • Writing and sending pre-suit Demand Letters • Understanding of various types of insurance coverages • Diligent use of case management software • Taking detailed notes of all client interactions • Maintaining or improving the organized, efficient, and effective case filing system to ensure all documents are properly sorted and easy to locate • Negotiating medical bill reductions • Ensuring all medical records, billing statements, PIP logs, and liens are complete • Finalizing liens and obtaining written confirmation • Sending payments to medical providers after reductions • Logging all expenses • Drafting proposed Itemized Client Account Disbursement letters and obtaining approval and client signature on Final Case Proceeds Disbursement • Issuing net proceeds checks to clients • Coordinating client reviews/photos, testimonials with Marketing Department • Other administrative duties as needed Qualifications: • 3 or more years as a litigation paralegal within the last 5 years, preferably in personal injury • Must have completed an ABA-approved paralegal certificate program such as an Associate’s degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies, Bachelor’s degree desired • Thorough knowledge of the insurance industry • Experience as an insurance defense litigation paralegal is beneficial • Must have a sincere compassion and desire to help injured people • Strong oral and written communication skills • Excellent organizational skills and time-management skills • Dedicated work ethic with effective attention to detail • No criminal convictions for a crime involving dishonesty (including shoplifting) or imprisonment for more than 12 months • Candidates who have completed a paralegal professional certification or have advanced paralegal education will receive preference Compensation: $65,000 - $80,000 yearly
