    JOB SUMMARY

    Under the direction of a registered pharmacist, performs a variety of technical and clerical duties for hospital-wide medication distribution and intravenous admixtures. Responsible to maintain confidential reports, enter and retrieve data utilizing the computer system, fill and dispense medications to appropriate department, and fill requests for pharmaceutical supplies and deliver supplies to nursing units.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    National certification preferred. Hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

    Valid state pharmacy technician registration.

    High school diploma or graduate equivalent degree.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE

    Category II Non Routine exposure.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Fills each MedStation to appropriate par levels.

    2. Fills cart fill and IV batch to fulfill patient needs.

    3. Fills and delivers controlled substances to nursing units and ancillary departments according to policy and procedure while maintaining accurate narcotic counts.

    4. Maintains appropriate inventory levels according to patient volume and anticipated need.

    5. Restocks nursing units, operating room, recovery room, and ancillary departments with a limited supply of floor stock medications and supplies.

    6. Prepackages and labels medications into unit doses from bulk supply.

    7. Reorders pharmacy supplies from Materials Management and outside vendors.

    8. Reorders medications from pharmaceutical wholesaler and directly from pharmaceutical manufacturers as necessary.

    9. Maintains pharmacy in a clean and organized fashion.

    10. Maintains clean and sterile environment within the intravenous admixture area, including clean room in accordance with USP 797. Routinely washes and applies appropriate germicidal solutions to all hoods, counters, carts, and all other equipment that will be used within the work area. Pharmacy technician is able to pass all requirements for working in the clean room, including gloved fingertip testing, media fill test, and written IV exam.

    11. Assembles materials for the preparation of the daily supply of IV’s including medication labels, medications, solutions, syringes, needles and administration sets and other equipment necessary.

    12. Routinely checks for expired drugs in MedStations, Pharmacy department and floor stock.

    13. Complies with facility Standards of Behavior and complete all required education assignments within the designated timeline.

    3. The employee must be able to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis and be able to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.

    4. The employee must be able to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day.
