NEEDED: PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN
LOCATION: 8500 Doniphan Drive, Anthony, TX 79821
SCHEDULE: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, M-F, between 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, not to exceed 40 hours per week
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a valid certification to practice in the state of Texas as a Certified Medical Assistant, Laboratory Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician or Phlebotomist.
- Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Must provide proof of 6 months of experience with specimen collection, packaging and shipment to referral laboratories with knowledge of maintaining appropriate records.
- Three (3) letters of reference.
DUTIES: not limited to the following:
- Assist the Physician, Physician Assistant, and/or Nurse with patient flow in a clinic setting by measuring the patient’s vital signs and weight and scanning laboratory results in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
- Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies, specimen collection and process within the Health Services Department, to include A&O in-processing, DNA per procedure, vaccine programs and PPD updates.
- Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the contract or BOP Reference Lab and document per Health Services Department Laboratory Procedures.
- Ensure that lab requests are completed properly, and all reports are returned from the contract lab, provider notified, log results in as received, follow up appropriately, and file results in lab and medical record.
- Maintain the needle/syringe inventory and routine equipment checks.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Department Policies and Procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory Procedure Manual is updated accordingly.
- Assist the Health Service Administrator (HSA) or his/her designee in the coordination of BOP and Contract Reference Lab contact, CLIA re-certification, maintenance of equipment and notification of needed supplies.
- Assist the HSA and Clinical Director with writing and implementing policies that deal with the laboratory program.
