Job Description
Pipe Welders join and repair pipes, tubular components, and build piping assemblies to specified standards. Pipe welders use a variety of tools that may include specialized equipment to complete the job. They work indoors and outdoors, and sometimes may be in cramped/confined spaces. A pipe welder will hold responsibility in inspecting materials, maintaining tools, performing pre-welding preparations, welding components according to specifications, and diligently following safety guidelines and regulations. As a successful pipe welder, you should be able to study the schematics and devise welding plans. Must be familiar with HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and industrial plant utilities utilizing boiler systems, steam piping, compressed air systems, hot/cold water piping systems, and other process systems. Their expertise is vital in industries like power generation, manufacturing, and construction where they often collaborate with other tradespeople to ensure seamless infrastructure integration.
Job Responsibilities (List is not inclusive)
Reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics
Determining the required tools, materials, and welding methods needed
Assembling, installing, and repairing pipe components and systems according to specifications
Inspecting/maintaining all materials, equipment, and tools being used
Preparing working materials by clamping, cutting, or applying chemical solutions to piping
Examining completed welds to ensure they are free of defects, smooth, and functional
Represent the company in a positive manner to other trades, contractors, and owners
Strictly adhere to all safety regulations
Qualifications
· Trade school diploma or competed apprenticeship preferred
Pipe welding experience required
Knowledge of AWS, API, ANSI, and ASME codes and standards
Ability to troubleshoot with strong attention to detail
Excellent technical skills with the ability to interpret schematics
Knowledge with welding processes and equipment
Effective communication and organizational skills

Work Environment
· Required to adhere to large amounts of noise, standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting
· Required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level
· Must be able to communicate effectively and work as a team
· Physically and mentally able to handle tasks and maintain good stamina
· Must be able to lift objects up to 50lbs
