Job Summary
The Plumbing Department - Plumber - conducts all work in accordance with company policies, procedures, and programs. The Plumber will directly report to the Plumbing Supervisor(s) & Sr. Plumbing Coordinator. The Plumber will be expected to be proficient and perform the following duties:
- Responsible for installing, assembling, fabricating, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems that carry various fluids including water, waste, chemicals, or gases in industrial settings. Systems include piping, valves, fittings, fixtures, and equipment.
- Strong understanding of plumbing systems, materials, and industrial standards
- Layout, assemble, install, and maintain underground and above-ground pipe systems, pipe supports, and related equipment
- Ability to run and become certified in the operation of heavy machinery including backhoes, trenchers, skid steers, and excavation equipment
- Use various tools and equipment, such as pipe cutters, threading machines, compression tools, press tools, and bending tools to join pipes by means of brazing, soldering, cementing, gluing, compression, press, or threading
- Install and connect a range of plumbing fixtures including but not limited to sinks, toilets, and water heaters
- Diagnose and repair faults in piping systems, including leaks, blockages, or pressure issues.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications to plan the layout of plumbing systems, ensuring compliance with design specifications and regulatory standards
- Test plumbing piping systems for leaks using methods like 10’ heat test, hydrostatic testing, or air pressure tests
- Ensure all work meets quality standards and industry codes
- Lead and instruct plumbing helpers, mechanics, and fitters under your supervision
- Work closely with other trades like welders, HVAC mechanics, and electricians to coordinate work on projects
- Communicate effectively with Plumbing supervisors, coordinators, and project managers regarding project status, material needs, and any issues encountered
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure systems operate efficiently and safely
- Adhere to all safety regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following OSHA guidelines
Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in industrial plumbing
- OSHA 10 or 30 safety certification or willingness to obtain one
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications
- Strong mathematical skills for measurements and calculations
- Strong understanding of NC Plumbing Codes and industry standards
- Mechanical aptitude with an understanding of different piping systems and materials
- Journeyman Level Tradesmen Certification – not required but advantageous
- Certification in Med-Gas – not required but advantageous
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50-lbs and safely climb ladders without physical overexertion
- Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy pipes and work in various positions
- Must be capable of working in environments that might be noisy, dusty, or have temperature extremes
Work Conditions
- Work is primarily on-site at industrial plants, factories, or construction sites
- Work Week – The normal work week will be Monday through Thursday 7:00am–5:30pm
- Position may involve working in shifts, including nights and weekends, depending on project timelines and maintenance schedules
- Follow all rules, protocols and procedures as set forth by the Company, which may be in the form of handbooks, directives, memorandums, meetings, or other means as deemed appropriate by the Company.

Compensation and Benefits
Hourly Rate: Competitive Pay – Varies Depending on Experience Level

- 401K Retirement Plan: SE&M provides a retirement plan. The employee is encouraged to participate in this plan by using payroll deductions upon eligibility per the plan documents, which requires an employee to wait 12 months until they can participate. SE&M will contribute to this plan depending on profitability as an additional benefit to employees. Management will decide the level of SE&M’s participation on an annual basis depending on the profitability of the company.
